Everything about the planning process was very streamlined with the Hotel. They take care of many of the important aspects surrounding the reception- the food, the drinks, the cake, etc- so all you have to do is know what you want! Wanda is a great event coordinator to work with, extremely responsive, friendly, and realistic.
The day of our wedding went ridiculously smooth. I would recommend that if you don't have your heart set on a different venue for your ceremony that you have it at the Hotel- many of our guests liked that they didn't have to worry about driving or walking between the ceremony and reception, that they could just enjoy everything as one big event. Both our ceremony and reception were in the ballroom, and the Hotel turned our perfect ceremony layout into an amazing reception layout so fast that my husband and I were able to check out the room while everyone was still enjoying cocktail hour (this was good for our photographer too). At the end of the night, the Hotel staff made sure our gifts made it to our suite (provided with the reception), along with the top of our cake and some late night snacks for us to enjoy :)
I have to mention Tiffany, or maitre'd, as well. She made sure we and our guests were enjoying everything and it was great having someone who was so friendly and professional be there...

The Gettysburg Hotel was the perfect place for our wedding. Everything was in one spot, and they took care of everything, even extar little details I wouldn't expect them to from flowers, to tables, to ceremony decor. I wanted very specific things in a specific way that required a little of manual labor and they were always willing to do it. They are a little more expensive but it is totally worth the extar money knowing there is nothing to worry about. the wedding coordinator Wanda was an angel and always responded to my many many email that wre very long, and she always was happy to reply and never took very long to reply. Cassie our Matrie d' for the day was also amazing keeping the details in mind and making sure we had everything we needed.

What an awesome venue! We had such a wonderful time at our reception! Wanda was just amazing to work with!

We had a wonderful wedding reception at the Gettysburg Hotel! We chose it based on the reviews from this site prior to our wedding... and all we can do is agree- Wanda, who coordinates weddings, was so helpful- even with things that didn't have anything to do with our reception- like helping us to find a ceremony site. She always answers even the most mundane questions within 24 hours (usually way less- and even on her own vacation!). The day of our wedding went so smoothly! The food was great! And the bridal suite was AMAZING!

We had an amazing experience with the Gettysburg hotel on our wedding day, as well as the months leading up to the wedding. Right away, during our first meeting we walked away knowing the Gettysburg Hotel was where we wanted to celebrate our big day. Wanda Gemmell worked with us through every detail of our reception. We were in constant touch via email and phone with Wanda through many months before our wedding. Wanda worked with us to have the perfect reception all within our budget. When something came up on our end, Wanda was very quick to act on it and address anything we asked. The day of the wedding, the Gettysburg hotel, along with ALL the staff went above and beyond. The room looked amazing, the food was delicious and every little detail we talked about was done. The day of my wedding, I did not have to do OR worry about anything. I knew we were in great hands all along, and we were. All of the staff at the Gettysburg hotel were extremely nice, helpful and always available to ourselves as bride and groom as well as our guests. I still have guests from our wedding say how beautiful and accommodating the Gettysburg Hotel was and how much they enjoyed themselves. I also had many people stay in the hotel who were out of town guests and they all said how wonderful the venue and employees of Gettysburg Hotel were, even after the reception, during their stay.
I would highly recommend the Gettysburg Hotel to anyone who wants a reception to remember. The Gettysburg Hotel made my wedding day a beautiful, stress free, and amazing day, I will always remember and cherish! Thank you Gettysburg Hotel!

Wanda was wonderful to work with. She's very thorough and makes sure special requests are granted. She doesn't miss a detail. The wedding day we were assigned a person to take care of us in addition to Wanda. Everyone was taken care of, the food was fantastic, the service impeccable. The music was perfect, all together an incredible day to remember.

The Gettysburg Hotel helped our wedding turn out wonderful! The staff is very friendly and helpful. THey were willing to put a wedding basket (which we had made) in each of our guests' rooms! The ceremony was beautiful. The reception was amazing. Overall, we had a wonderful eperience!

The Gettysburg Hotel provides a myriad of choices to accomodate most budgets. The Grand Balllroom will add stature to whichever option you may select. Numerous wedding guests complimented us on our choice of venue citing the beauty and elegance of the ballroom, feel and history of the Gettysburg Hotel, quality of the food, and attentivenss of the staff. Be assured that with the details being attended to by Wanda and her staff that you and your guests can concentrate on the important job of celebrating and having fun. And after the fun is over, it is great to be able to walk upstairs and completely unwind in those big beautiful rooms.

We were more than satisfied with our experience with the Gettysburg Hotel. Everyone was very helpful and flexible with any changes that had to be made. They really made the entire day go as smoothly as possible. Wanda guided us though every step of the wedding. It made planning the entire event very easy! They take care of every detail to make the entire day as perfect as possible. We would definietly recommend this Hotel to anyone planning their wedding!

My husband and I held our wedding reception at the Gettysburg Hotel in January 2011. The staff at the hotel and Wanda Gemmel, their wedding coordinator, made our special day a cinch by coordinating every detail. The accommodations were just right for our guests needs and there was plenty of on-site parking available. The staff made sure our reception room was perfect and the Grand Ballroom was great for our 170 guests. Wanda and her staff were so detail oriented that on my big day I knew all I had to do was celebrate and enjoy our special day. We have had so many guests compliment us on how professional the staff was and the quality of food served at the reception. We were married almost 3 months ago and we still have guests telling us it was the best wedding reception they've ever been to. We wish we could have kept the party going all night long. We didn't want it to end!

This is going to be long! I have to check Unique Services. My husband and I were married at The Gettysburg Hotel on October 30th, 2010. As I'm sure many brides would say their wedding was amazing but I truly mean it! We luckily found this hotel while attending a bridal showcase. My very pregnant sister-in-law saw a table set-up which included a ton of candy and so she walked over. While there, she looked at The Gettysburg Hotel and told me I needed to check this place out. That day we met Wanda (an angel) and Terri (another angel) and decided to take a trip to Gettysburg, PA even though we had never been there before. After meeting with Wanda, we walked around the town and decided this was the place! We centered everything around the hotel. Not only did our guests stay at the hotel, our reception and cocktail hour were held there as well. Wanda sent me a list of churches in the area and we found Pastor Mike from St. James Lutheran Church - A block from the hotel on the right. A-MA-ZING! Our rehearsal dinner was held at The Pub & Restaurant – Across the street from the hotel. It was delicious and Nick was on top of everything! At the hotel, Wanda’s crew took care of EVERYTHING! Set up of all things wedding related, timeline of the reception, specialty drinks, I mean they helped with it all! Decorating the rooms, setting up the centerpieces, cake table, candy table, food, alcohol...the list goes on and on. Wanda even came to my house for a meeting (I’m not sure I should mention that)! There is so much I could say about The Gettysburg Hotel but one thing I know. Our wedding would not have been the same had we not found this place. The Gettysburg Hotel was the complete package for us. My parents and I have already been back there to speak at one of their Tastings. It felt like going home, it was amazing to see everyone again! Our family and friends are still telling us how much fun they had at our wedding. We had the BEST time at our wedding...everything was perfect <3 Love Kristin & Nick

We absolutely loved our wedding reception at the Gettysburg Hotel! We couldn't have asked for a better time! Wanda and Sean were extremely helpful and made sure our wedding turned out perfect! The food was great, and the cake by Karen turned out wonderful! We still get comments from our family and friends on how much they enjoyed the whole experience! We definitely recommend the Gettysburg hotel as a great place to have your wedding reception!
GUEST

The Gettysburg Hotel is such a lovely venue for a wedding. My wife and I had 4 months to plan a wedding and contacted Wanda at the hotel, met with her and was a real pleasure to work with. She was a blast. Always there when we had a question to be able to answer it for us. The ceremony was in the Eisenhower Room and when decorated it was great. The reception was then held in the ballroom and it was simply beautiful. The food was great. The staff was so easy to work with and very friendly. Thanks Wanda for a great wedding. We will tell everybody we know. Some of our guest have even told us that our wedding was better then ther own childrens wedding, one of the best weddings we attended.
GUEST

My experience at the Gettysburg Hotel was wonderful. The hotel was gorgeous and our pictures turned out beautifully. Wanda was amazing and did everything in her power to ensure that the reception was perfect (which it was). I was able to relax during the reception, feeling confident that everything would be taken care of by the hotel staff. We attended a event at the hotel prior to the wedding where we were able to sample the different meal selections. We were very specific about what we wanted for meals and Wanda was amazingly flexible and understanding of our needs! The food was delicious! The reception was set up was beautifully and we received a lot of praise from our guests regarding our venue selection! I highly recommend this venue to any bride to be!
GUEST

The Historic Gettysburg Hotel is a gorgeous place to get married. We had a ceremony and reception there on September 25, 2010. Our consultant, Wanda, was fantastic in working with us and our budget. She was patient and willing to work with us even though we had to change our date more than twice. The staff was extremely professional and it seemed as if somebody was right there whenever you needed something, especially on the day of the wedding. Our complimentery honeymoon suite was beautiful and very cozy with a nice fireplace. If anybody around the Gettysburg area is looking for a place, we would highly recommend looking here!
GUEST

This hotel is a beautiful venue to have both your ceremony and reception services. The attention and responsiveness to everyone involved was impressive. I couldn't have asked for a better venue or staff; especially planning from out-of-state!
GUEST

Wanda and the whole hotel staff were wonderful to work with. The wedding was beautiful, food was delicious, and the planning process ran really smoothly. Wanda also was able to give us great advice about other vendors in the area. We had a lot of comments that it was one of the best all around weddings that some of our guests had attended.
GUEST

The Gettysburg Hotel was wonderful in every way. The staff were kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and worked really hard to make the day perfect. The food was amazing and the hall was beautiful. When we had a problem with one of our other vendors, Wanda, the head coordinator, stepped in and helped us out in every way. We would recommend the Gettysburg Hotel wholeheartedly.
GUEST

Wanda was so responsive and flexible...and it never hurt to ask for anything! She was available to us during off-hours and made it seem like we were never a bother (even though we felt like it). She made our wedding and reception planning so easy and therefore, everything we imagined. We had a friend who was acting as our wedding planner, and Wanda gladly interacted with her, and also kept us in the loop as well. The wedding and reception turned out to be so elegant that we received thank-you's from people that attended our wedding/reception! Terri and Wanda together, on the 'big day,' were amazing! Anything we wanted or needed was instantly supplied, and they advocated for us with our vendors if we weren't 'happy' with something momentarily (like if we needed a break - they gave us one). They also attended to any of our guest's needs as well, ensuring special meals or room accommodations. In addition, Wanda advised us on 'best practices' when we were unsure what decisions to make in 'ordering' or 'planning' - this made us feel at ease. Wanda ordered things from the vendors that she interacted with on a routine basis, and gladly assisted the vendors we had chosen, before and during the event. We just can't say enough. Throughout the entire event, from the rehearsal to checkout following the event, everything was smooth and occured without a single 'glitch.' THANK YOU SO MUCH!
GUEST

The Hotel was absolutly amazing! Wanda was so helpful to work with during all the planning and answered my millions of questions very promptly. we were a very demading group and she did everything to make it carefree for us. Terri was great with the planning and day of activities, she kept everything running smooth even after the wedding was over they treated us awsome.
GUEST

My wedding and reception were absolutely perfect! I could not possibly have dreamed anything better. Everyone at The Gettysburg Hotel, from the desk staff to the housekeeping staff, were pleasant and accommodating. There are not enough complementary words in the dictionary to describe Wanda and the event staff. It has been over a month since my wedding, and my friends and family are still commenting on how unique and beautiful the venue was. If I were to get married all over again, there isn't a thing I would change.
GUEST

The staff at the Gettysburg Hotel went above and beyond in every area to make my wedding day even better than I could have ever dreamt of. Atomsphere, food, and service was superb! They took care of every detail throughout the day and evening, so I could just relax and enjoy my special day :]
GUEST

I would recommend The Historic Gettysburg Hotel to any perspective couple for a wedding reception!
GUEST

I highly reccommend the Gettysburg Hotel. Everything was wonderful and I could not have asked for anything more.
GUEST

The location was great. I loved the old town charm with history (the hotel is supposedly haunted). Terry our matre'd was great!!! Anyone in the special events department helped all day the day of and the day after to ensure that our wedding went off without a hitch.
GUEST

Working with Wanda Gemmell at the Gettysburg Hotel was a pleasure. She stayed in regular communication and was able to work with us on our needs. My husband and I are very impressed with the service we received and would definitely recommend the hotel to others.
GUEST

It was a pleasure working with Wanda Gemmell and the Gettysburg Hotel.
GUEST

Wanda and Terri were great! I would recommend the Gettysburg Hotel to anyone. Wanda always offered prompt service, and during the reception, Terri worked hard to make sure everything went smoothly (which it did). I had the reception I've always dreamed of because of these two!
Thank you!!

Terri, the maitre'd did a great job making sure all was the way we wanted it and her staff was very attentive throughout the affair. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were also very polite and accomodating for all of the things that pop up that are not expected.
I would recommend Terri and her staff for any event. The food was excellent and the bar had all we could want.
GUEST

The Historic Gettysburg Hotel were unbelievably responsive and cooperative throughout our entire wedding process. They were so personable and enjoyable to work with. I couldnt prase them more!
GUEST

My wedding at the Gettysburg Hotel was absolutely perfect.
I first visited the Gettysburg Hotel seven years ago when planning a conference. I was so struck by how amazing and interesting the space is that it was the first place I thought of for the reception once we got engaged. Their "grand ballroom" is actually an old bank, full up with the bank vault. The ceiling is so high, with beautiful detailing. Also inside the hotel, right next to the ballroom is McClellan's Tavern, a beautiful old-time pub, conveniently located near the ballroom and great for post-reception partying. Because the pub was in the hotel, my entire extended family partied there both the night before the wedding and after the reception. And the location! Our families traveled 5 hours each to come to our wedding and everyone raved about the location and the hotel. Nestled in the heart of downtown Gettysburg, our guests could walk to local pubs, shops, tea rooms, diners, and restaurants.
Wanda Gemmell, the coordinator, was great to work with -- responsive, pleasant, and fun. Terri, the Maitre D, was awesome, always made sure we were taken care of, and ensured I always had a drink in my hand. The front desk staff graciously delivered the 65 OOT bags my mother made to individual rooms. I can't say enough great things about the hotel, and I have zero complaints.
GUEST

Let me just start by saying that everything was perfect!.....which is no small feat when we planned and had our wedding in a 6 week time frame, and on a budget! My guests were amazed with how beautiful the ballroom was, and even more amazed with the food! Our complimentary room and cake were gorgeous! Wanda and her staff were top-notch....they were extremely flexible, and kept things flowing smoothly. I couldn't have pulled off such a lavish affair in 6 weeks without the help of Wanda, her staff, and the Gettysburg Hotel! Thank you for making our day what we dreamed it would be!
GUEST

The Gettysburg Hotel ballroom was beautiful!!! Wanda was so wonderful to work with. Shirley and her staff provided excellent service to our guests. And Shawn took great care of the bride and groom. The bridal suite was awesome. I would highly recommend this venue for any future events you may be planning.
GUEST

The hotel took a great weight off our shoulders! They took care of everything they possibly could...the reception there was the easiest part of our wedding planning! Definitely worth our money!
GUEST

My husband and I were engaged on Christmas 2010 and wanted to have a wedding in Gettysburg. We were living in Michigan and were a little worried aboiut how to plan a wedding from such a distance but Wanda and her staff from the first contact took care of everything. It did make a difference in price as to the timeframe that we chose. March was perfect. The weather was absolutely beautiful and although we had a small wedding (only about 30), it was perfect. Our friends and family still talk about how wonderful the ceremony was in Gettysburg. We highly recommend thHistoric Gettysburg Hotel and Wanda as your Wedding planner. Thanks so much Wanda.
Vendor response to review
Thanks Linda!! I still play your wedding cd and Terri and I still talk about the dancing that took place that night on the carpet.
GUEST

Wanda and the staff at the hotel are so eager to please and bend over backwards to make sure that the reception is exactly how you want it. The reception was absolutely beautfiul and exceeded both of our expectations. Thank you Wanda!
GUEST

The hotel was the best part of the wedding. They were extremely accomodating to everything we asked for. Joe Spandolini, their event coordinator, was always on hand to answer questions and to make sure I had everything the way I wanted it. The food was great (and my guests all got what they wanted, and the people with dietary restrictions were accomodated nicely), the rooms were decorated exactly as I wished, and they just made everything go so smoothly. They even placed gift bags into the rooms of guests the night before the wedding (I made the bags and gave them to the staff - they put the bags in all of the rooms). There were so many small touches that they did to make my day go beautifully.
GUEST

We had a rehearsal/thanksgiving dinner for more than 50 guests at the Gettysburg Hotel, and we couldn't have been happier. Wanda was extremely easy to deal with and very responsive. We had a great thanksgiving menu at a cost that made it do-able for us to invite all of our guests to share a full meal with us, including wine, for thanksgiving the night before our wedding.
The food was delicious, with a menu that pleased everyone from meat-eaters to vegetarians. The desserts were lovely and varied; everyone sampled at least a couple of them. We were amazed at the value we got for our money: the room rental fee was minimal, the per person cost and the cost of wine were very reasonable, and we didn't get nickle and dimed for any extras. Everything we needed was included, down to mirror tiles and candles for centerpieces. I bought a few colored table runners to put down on the white linens, and that was it. My only complaint would be that we requested carafes of wine be on the tables when guests arrived. The waitstaff were still putting water and wine on the tables when we arrived, so we had to rejigger our plan for toasts, but in the end everything worked out just fine.
I would strongly recommend the Gettysburg Hotel as a venue for wedding receptions or rehearsal dinners. Although we were too small a group to utilize it, the ballroom is gorgeous and has loads of character. You can't beat this venue for value, and we were very pleased with the service, particularly from Wanda, who's a true professional.
GUEST

We had a blast at our wedding and Wanda (the coordinator) did a great job! She was always prompt in returning phone calls and emails. In the middle of our reception, she ran down the street to get a drink for my husband that the bar did not provide. Excellent service!
Constructive Criticism: Nobody was available to meet my bridal party when they arrived, and our VIP cocktail hour was in a different room than I thought it would be.
GUEST

The Gettysburg Hotel was a fantastic venue for both our ceremony and reception. We were very pleased with how things turn out. Ours was a summer wedding so one of our only complaints was the "darkness" of the ballroom for the time of year. But it was well worth the sacrifice. For any winter brides, you couldn't ask for anything better! Wanda is fabulous to work with and made sure our day was exceptional!
GUEST

Couldn't be happier with the services provided for our Big Day! From beginning planning stages to final execution, everything was perfect!
GUEST

The Gettysburg Hotel was more than we ever thought it would be. My husband and I were very happy with the way everything went and were amazed at how smooth the evening was. The food was AMAZING and to this day, 3 months after our wedding, we still hear rave reviews about the food...absolutely EXCEPTIONAL! Wanda and the staff at the Hotel are fabulous. They are flexible and willing to work with you to make your day memorable and magical. We can not say enough positive things about the Gettysburg Hotel and its staff...absolutely amazing. We would recommend this venue to any and all who ask!!
GUEST

Wanda and the staff at the Gettysburg Hotel went above and beyond to make our wedding reception a beautiful and classy event. With Wanda's help, the planning process went so smoothly - I couldn't have asked for better service! On the wedding day, every detail was handled promptly and professionally, and my husband and I could not be happier with how the evening turned out. The staff was so thoughtful throughout the entire night, even taking slices of wedding cake to our suite because we didn't have a chance to eat it during the reception! Our guests had a wonderful time and were very impressed with the accommodations. Overall, we have absolutely no regrets about selecting the Gettysburg Hotel as our reception venue, and we would recommend it to anyone without hesitaiton.
GUEST

The Historic Gettysburg Hotel is the perfect place for the ceremony and reception site for any size wedding. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel and the staff is just wonderful. They gave me my perfect wedding!
GUEST

The hotel was extremely accommodating and was really able to work with us, especially regarding our budget. Wanda was really helpful and was able to make the day everything that I had imagined.
GUEST

Gettysburg Historic Hotel provided a great wedding for us. Throughout the process, they were helpful and thorough. On our wedding day they provided extremely courteous service to both my wife and I and our guests. The only thing that could have been better would have been a more thorough circulation of appetizers during the cocktail hour.
GUEST

Wanda Gemmell is an angel! She is wonderful, accomodating, and on top of her job! The front desk staff needs alot more training when dealing with weddings, booking rooms within a block, and general professionalism after hours.
We had alot of out of town guests that had trouble being connected to the correct reservation line.
Overall, Wanda was a joy to work with, and a very hard worker! She made my wedding day wonderful.
GUEST

Wanda and the staff at The Gettysburg Hotel were professional and very helpful and responsive to our ideas & needs. We had both the ceremony & reception in the grand ballroom, and we didn't have to worry about set-up/tear-down. They did a fantastic job "flipping" the room.
The honeymoon suite was spacious enough for all the gals in the wedding to get dressed at the same time, and the jacuzzi tub was relaxing after a long day. We were very pleased and can't say enough positive things about the staff and accommodations at The Gettysburg Hotel.
GUEST

Wanda and Terri are amazing and made the process very easy and relaxed. The food was amazing and weeks after, our guests continued to tell us how good the food was.
GUEST

After having originally booked a 6/28/08 wedding date, we requested the assistance of Wanda Gemmell at the Hotel in order to modify the date to 2/16/08. She was incredibly understanding and worked with us to replan our wedding in a much shorter period of time. She was responsive, friendly, helpful and professional in all of our dealings. On our actual wedding date, Wanda ensured all details were taken care of in a timely fashion. Overall service as provided by the Hotel was excellent, food was tasty, and setting was nicely decorated. Generally speaking, we were extremely pleased with everything and would recommend the Gburg Hotel to future brides and grooms.
GUEST

The Gettysburg Hotel staff was wonderful. They ensured that our guests had a great time and really enjoyed themselves. the staff was extremely attentive to our needs, all we needed to do was ask and it was done for us. They took care of all of the details for the reception and made sure that my husband and I didn't have to worry about a thing. The only issue that we had during the planning phase was there were times when it took a while for someone to return a phone call. Other than that, they were great.
The grand ballroom is beautiful and has an old bank safe that is a really neat, unique addition for pictures.
GUEST

I was able to plan a fabulous wedding from California at this hotel, many thanks to Wanda!
GUEST

My now husband and I actually got engaged at the hotel in there fabulous restaurant so we thought it would be a great idea to have our wedding reception there. We are so glad we did!! Wanda and Terri whom are the wedding coordinators at the hotel were amazing!! They were there with an answer to all of my questions. The reception room is beautiful and all of our guests were amazed at how nice everything turned out. The room itself was a conversation piece. The food was amazing as well!! All in All, I would recommend this venue to anyone!! You will not be disappointed!!
GUEST

We had a unique experience with the Gettysburg Hotel because they were not our original venue for our reception. Our first venue backed out approximately 8 weeks before our wedding date. I was in a panic to find another venue on the same date and was fortunate to find the Gettysburg Hotel! They were wonderful and very helpful, not to mention a pleasure to work with especially after all the stress I experience with the first venue pulling out of the contract. They made everything very easy for us and really tired to work within our original budget. Our wedding day was AMAZING! Everything went smoothly and was perfect (if anything went wrong, we never knew about it). We feel that everything happens for a reason and we know that our wedding was even better at the Gettysburg Hotel then it ever could have been at the original venue. Thank you!
GUEST

Wanda & the crew did a wonderful job of making sure our reception was exactly how we wanted it!!!
GUEST

We had our wedding reception at the Gettysburg Hotel on May 30, 2009 and I highly recommend the venue for any wedding or event. Throughout our planning, Wanda and later Wanda and Terri were both exceedingly helpful and responsive. They have strong ties with the local florist, DJ, cake baker and rental company we used, so everything arrived and was set up for us flawlessly. All we had to do was show up!
The ballroom is gorgeous, the food was delicious, and I'm told the bar service was above average - it all made for a beautiful and relaxed reception. Even two months later, I'm often complimented on how great the reception was - not to our credit, of course! We in the bridal party were treated very well, with a special room to hide out in during the cocktail hour and special service from Terri throughout the night.
The air conditioner broke near the middle of the reception, but as the bride, I didn't notice until I was told about it later. Most guests were having a great time so they stayed despite the gradually warming room. Terri insisted on getting a maintenance crew to come in, but they wouldn't have arrived until the reception was over anyway so my husband told her to deal with it tomorrow. The entire situation, I hear, was handled very professionally.
The accommodations for the bride and groom were very impressive - we stayed in one of three bridal suites. Wanda and Terri allowed an early check-in so my bridesmaids could get ready there in the hotel. Terri had some snacks and champagne sent up to our suite after the reception ended.
What attracted us to the Gettysburg Hotel was the value for the cost. It was definitely more expensive than other venues we toured, but between the bridal suite, the cake, the handy "extras" we had access to, and both a full-time coordinator and a maitre d', we knew we were getting a value we couldn't attach a price tag to. Plus, the food was much better than was expected at a large event like that, and the ballroom was gorgeous, and we would have spent a lot of money to re-create that atmosphere elsewhere.
GUEST

I was overall very pleased with my choice to use The Gettysburg Hotel as my venue. Despite a few minor hiccups (and what wedding is without any) I was very satisfied. All my guests commented on how I couldn't have picked a nicer venue. Not only the catering staff but every worker at the hotel was awesome!! The receptionists at the front desk took our gift baskets to put in the rooms of our out of town guests, were always on hand to recommend a restaurant or let me into parts of the wedding/reception area that were closed for the night. My wedding was just after Christmas and they took down some decorate Christmas trees that I didn't want in my ceremony/reception room although a business was having their Christmas part the next night and had requested them. I could go on and on . . . .
GUEST

We had our reception at the Gettysburg Hotel on June 20th. We had our reception a week after our wedding ceremony and so our circumstances were a bit different than most. Wanda and Terri were very accommodating to our non-traditional interests. Aside from a few minor bumps, which are to be expected at any function, we were extremely pleased with the service and the venue. We were the second wedding at the venue on that day yet the staff remained professional in the execution of their duties. They were personable and attentive. Aside from the rating system, the room itself is amazing and we are pleased with our decision to have hosted our reception there.
GUEST

make sure your wedding is the only one the hotel is hosting that day, otherwise you share you mater'de and the staff does not have all eyes on your event. Wanda Gemmell was amazing to work with, very attentive and responsive. The front desk staff was very friendly to all of our overnight guests as well. Everything for my wedding was set up exactly as I had imagined it.
GUEST

The ceremony hall was a little cramped for the guests, but thankfully it was only a 10 minute ceremony. The pre-reception was fantastic. The ballroom was spectacular, the service during the reception was phenomenal. The only complaint I have is that we were rushed to leave prior to 5:00pm (when our reception was over) because another wedding reception was scheduled to follow ours. Our guests were just leaving, and the atrium was filling up with the next reception's guest. It was very crowded and unpleasant.
GUEST

This place is gorgeous!!! I had to change my venue two months before my wedding and this place stepped right in and my wedding was beautiful. There were a couple of contract specifics I wish they would have made clear and discussed with us rather than us being surprised when an issue or two came up (because who reads every word, right? haha!)
Wedding day was wonderful! The service was excellent. The food was fantastic! I am very glad I was able to have my reception here!
GUEST

The coordinator, Wanda, was very pleasant to work with. She helped me out with any questions I had and was always available. The food was good, and most of the staff was very nice. The only set back I had was the maitre d', Terry. She informed us that announcing the wedding party as well as myself and my husband would not be an issue and she would be glad to do it. Well, 5 minutes before the time came to announce us in, she acted like she had no idea that she would be doing it and did a horrible job. There was also a mix up with our contract in that they thought we were supposed to leave at 10:30, when in fact we were contracted to be there until 11. She was very rude to my father, who is the one that paid for everything, when he pointed out she was incorrect. We ended up winning the argument, but my father was very put off by her. She also had taken our cake topper up to our room for us, and when we got there we had found the box had been dropped. Icing was all over the floor and the cake was ruined. I wouldn't have been so angry except that no one said a word to us about it, we had to find out for ourselves, and when she saw us the next morning, she quickly turned the other way and didn't say a word to us. I know receptions go pretty quickly for the bride and groom, but I felt very rushed throughout the whole evening...
Having said all that, the ballroom is beautiful, as was our complimentary bridal suite for the evening.

The original contract for this part was for the time frame 7:00PM - 11:00PM. When we sat down for the final detailing the start time was changed to 6:30PM therefore moving the ending time to 10:30PM. We did give them the additional half hour with an open bar at no additional cost to them.
We don't typically do the announcing of the bridal party but leave that up to the professional (dj). They had a family friend as the dj, who we were told "had no speaking skills". So we made an exception and told them that we would do the announcing.
We do not handle the cake top or gifts once they are put in the vault. They had family and friends move them to the bridal suite after the reception, we were unaware that the cake top had been dropped.
I was not made aware of any problems that incurred that night until this review.

The sales manager was great to work with for the most part but I was disappointed in the Maitre D the day of the wedding. She did a lot of set up prior to the event but was very hard to find during the reception.

Terri was on top of things at the reception. Wanda was very responsive to questions.

They were a great help and fabulous with accomodations and listened well to make our dream come true.

We were greatly DISAPPOINTED in our experience with The Gettysburg Hotel. Wanda, the woman in charge of events, was absolutely fantastic, however her assistant (who we were mostly in contact with the day of the wedding) was absolutely horrible. He was mean to everyone in the wedding party, refused to get us some of the things that we were promised in our contract, and told my husband's teenage sisters that if they weren't going to drink the beer and wine then there was nothing else he could do. He was rude to everyone in the party and to our parents. On top of all of this, someone from the catering staff stole 4 of our bouquets including my bridal bouquet. We had to spend nearly the whole day after the wedding trying to deal with the hotel employees as they tried to find the missing bouquets. It was a horrible ordeal. Wanda offered us a free night's stay to the hotel for our troubles, but it hardly seems enough after so many problems arose for our special day. We would not recommend going with the Gettysburg Hotel for your special event.

I am so sorry to hear that Christin and Luke would not recommend us for any special event. Their wedding reception, was absolutely beautiful. I was there and had many positive comments from the guests. The individuals that were noted in the comments are no longer employed at the hotel. We strive to give every couple the wedding that they have always dreamt of and this one was no exception. When I noticed that the bride's parents didn't eat much, I personally fixed a dinner plate, took a refrigerator and the food up to their room so that they could relax and eat it later. We sat down and designed a menu to suit their specific needs as well. We are very flexible. I offered not only an overnight stay but a "Romantic Escape" package for the bride & groom and her parents. Total value - up to $800.00 I'm sorry that she wouldn't recommend us but I think the review is a little unfair.

The hotel ballroom is gorgeous. It was exactly the atmosphere that my husband and I wanted for our wedding. It is a wonderful place to get married, but my advice to anyone who has their wedding and/or reception here is to have your own wedding planner. We trusted Wanda to have things running on schedule, but from the start of the ceremony, everything was running embarrassingly behind. We paid certain vendors for a certain amount of time and it was thrown completely off track, ie our wedding video only shows half of our reception. Wanda is fantastic during the planning process, however, but when it comes to the the most special day of life, she is useless. When my parents approached her about the timing being incredibly off, she came up to me (the BRIDE!) in the middle of the dance floor to announce to me that she was leaving because my parents confronted her. In my opinion, it's not very professional to run off like a 5 year old when someone has a complaint. She also promised that she would be there for our rehearsal, which she was not. The rest of the staff was amazing, though. Five stars to the Gettysburg Hotel, one star to Wanda.

I just happened to scroll back through these reviews after checking to see what the current options for a reception at this venue were since we've had our reception. The only reason I am re-responding is because I just noticed the completely untrue response I got to my original review.
Original Review:
The coordinator, Wanda, was very pleasant to work with. She helped me out with any questions I had and was always available. The food was good, and most of the staff was very nice. The only set back I had was the maitre d', Terry. She informed us that announcing the wedding party as well as myself and my husband would not be an issue and she would be glad to do it. Well, 5 minutes before the time came to announce us in, she acted like she had no idea that she would be doing it and did a horrible job. There was also a mix up with our contract in that they thought we were supposed to leave at 10:30, when in fact we were contracted to be there until 11. This is a complete and utter lie. As far as the contract goes, it was to not only my understanding, but also to my mother in law who was with me at the time that we were getting at additional 1/2 hour added onto our contract. No one said anything about the time being changed from 11 to 10:30. Even if I misunderstood, that is absolutely no excuse to be as rude as they were when the problem presented itself at the end of the evening. As far as the announcing goes, I know they don't normally do the announcing, but when you tell me you have no problem doing it and then right before its time to announce you act like you had no idea? That's not ok. If they didn't want to do it then they should have told me no instead of telling me it was no problem. I would have found someone else. Finally, and the most disgusting part of their response, is regarding my cake. Our family and friends did NOT take our gifts and cake to our room, in fact Terry herself told me she was going to do it! No one else had access to our room, and the fact that she quickly bolted in the other direction when she saw us the next morning tells me she knew EXACTLY what happened.
I don't appreciate the response I received, especially when it made me out to be a liar. I was very happy with all other aspects of the evening. I normally would not have responded back with this, especially since I'm just now seeing the response I received, but I want to make sure no one else is LIED to as you were with their answer to my review. And to whoever did leave the response...maybe you should have a talk with your inept staff member before trying to make me look like a liar.
