The Grosse Pointe Academy Chapel
Reviews for The Grosse Pointe Academy Chapel

I'd love to give this gorgeous chapel five stars because of its amazing setting off the lake and the historic details inside that made for the most beautiful ceremony... but the only complaint I have is that the woman who did our rehearsal & ceremony was quite rude (NOT Peggy, who was the VERY helpful and pleasant lady I had been dealing with over the phone and via email). She rushed us so terribly at our rehearsal that at our ceremony, we literally did not know what to do exactly. It was fine because, of course, it made for some good laughs! But then, we signed our marriage license and went outside to take some very brief photos (and I do stress brief, maybe 15 minutes)... and when we walked back to the door of the church, that woman had brought all of our belongings (flowers, coats, even my bridesmaids PURSES) and just set them on the step and locked the door! It was incredibly rude in my opinion... I thought about writing a letter since everything else was amazing, but whatever, it was the best day of my life thus far and I didn't let that rude lady ruin it for me! ;)

I booked the Academy Chapel without seeing it after having issues with another church we were hoping to use. I had seen a knottie's (Mrs*Lauren*&*Justin*) pictures and loved it. I booked it over the phone and saw it for the first time at the Rehearsal (2 days before the Wedding). The coordinator was extremely helpful. She had worked with our officiant before, so she was able to give us pointers about how he runs the ceremony. They day of, we had the same coordinator, and again she was helpful. I wish they had put signs out front to direct guests, because the driveways are slightly confusing. As a result, we had about 20 people that were not able to be seated before I walked down the aisle. After the ceremony was over, the coordinator told the photographer that we had 5 minutes for pictures, even though the paperwork said we can either take pictures or do a receiving line for about 15 to 20 minutes. We were able to stay inside for pictures for 15 minutes before we were actually kicked out (they were going to bill us for. The chapel is beautiful, our guests loved it, and we were able to finish up pictures at the War Memorial, but I did not appreciate being told to leave the chapel, which is why they get 4 stars.

Grosse Pointe Academy Chapel is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever laid my eyes on. It’s relatively small “chapel” size (seats about 200) made our ceremony feel intimate and appeared packed with guests. Due to its old-style beauty, it does not require much decorating. Flower petals and rice are not allowed. The Chapel is affiliated with the Archdiocese of Detroit, and thus we had to complete the necessary Catholic marriage classes and hire a Priest to officiate the ceremony (they do not have one on staff). The Coordinator for the Chapel was very helpful and organized, however a different staff member orchestrated our rehearsal (which was a surprise to me).
