The Icing on the Cake

A cake from the Icing on the Cake was part of our venue's wedding package. Working with Paula and her team was an absolute pleasure! They accommodated all of our special requests, even "testing" a variety of edible rhinestones to make sure they would work on our cake. On the day of, the cake looked absolutely spectacular--better than I even imagined--and tasted delicious! The cake was moist and fluffy and the buttercream (no fondant here) was perfect!

Oh my gosh! what a surprise it was to walk into my reception on my new years eve wedding and see my wonderful cake. it was truly better than I imagined. It was just a three tier, but I added bling to the bottom and black scroll, per Paula's input, last minute and the black scroll made it!! Paula and her team sat down with us to design it and pick the cake flavor. She got back to emails as I was living out of state and did last minute additions before the wedding. The cake was the last thing I was thinking about as a concern the day of my wedding and it just showed up, perfect and delicious. Not to mention the cake came with my wedding package at the millennium hotel and they still went above and beyond!!

While the cupcakes we had at our wedding were delicious, I was fairly disappointed with how they looked. I had provided The Icing on the Cake with an image of what I was looking for, and they let me know that they could definitely match that photo. Both the swirl of the icing and the silver ball decorations were very different from the photo provided. That being said, they did taste great and I know our guests enjoyed them. In the end I wish we had picked a design from their catalog of work instead of providing them with something different. That way we would have known for sure they could accomplish our vision. I would not have gone with a different baker, because they definitely have the best tasting cakes around.

Our cake was beautiful and tasted even better. It was so good that a lot of our guests had seconds and there was none leftover. They are definite professionals in their industry. They took our design ideas and interpreted them onto the cake even better than we could have imagined.

Beautiful AND delicious! When we found out that our cake was included in our wedding package at the Lenox Hotel in downtown Boston we were so happy; every time someone asked who was doing our cake for the wedding, their response to TIOC was “I loooooove the Icing on the Cake!”, and rightfully so! It was an incredibly tough decision at the tasting, but we selected a tier of chocolate mousse cake and two tiers of carrot cake – a-mazing. It was a true pleasure to work with Paula and the gang, they were reassuring, happy to hear any ideas and to make suggestions and produced a beautiful work of art that tasted like heaven – our guests are still raving!

I went with Icing on The Cake (TIOTC).They are small and let you taste all kinds of flavors. Its really awesome. They helped us finish out the design. The pricing was excellent. The cake was right on time. It was really beautiful. I literally looked through tons of bakers. I went with TIOTC because two restaurants I worked with loved their cake. Icing on The Cake is located in Newton. Nothing like a little envy from other foodies. Yum

The Icing on the Cake did a great job on our cake. They were very responsive and friendly when we called for a price quote/appt (which is saying something because 3 places in the Boston area never returned my calls or followed up with my inquiries). Paula was very flexible, helping us pick out a cake with our budget in mind, and the cake tasted delicious.

We heard about The Icing on the Cake from our reception site and were not disappointed. We had a consultation/tasting with Paula a few months before the wedding and she designed a beautiful (and delicious) cake for us. We chose the golden amaretto cake and had comments from our guests all night about how good it was. We couldn't even wait to have more and ate our cake topper within a week. Luckily, they offer an anniversary cake if we send a professional photo of the cake so we'll get to have more next year!

The Icing on the Cake was amazing!! They worked with us to create a beautiful wedding cake that worked with the rest of the wedding, and all the cake flavors are to die for. Everyone at our wedding was raving about how delicious the cake was. We have purchased cakes from TIOTC for engagement parties and bridal showers as well. The cakes are always creative and perfect for the occasion. I would recommend TIOTC to anyone who loves cake!!

Our reception wedding package included a cake from The Icing on the Cake. We went to try the cake samples (all delicious!) and were able to sit to design our cake to what we wanted. It was such an easy process and entirely stress free. For a small fee, we were able to customize the cake to exactly what we wanted, which was well worth it. The cake at the wedding was perfect and delicious! I would highly recommend getting a wedding cake from them!

They seemed flexible enough, but didn't follow through on things they said they'd follow through on - like showing us the design of the cake before actually making the cake. They sold us on a design that would be elegant and beautiful and just ended up looking cheap. The cake also didn't taste nearly as good as the cake we tried.

Our cake was delicious and beautiful. Paul and team exceeded expectations. So glad we get the free anniversary cake. No way could I have saved the topper for a year.

The Icing on the Cake was the preferred bakery of our reception venue so we were really hoping to love them when we met Paula for a tasting and consultation. We were not disappointed! Paula was welcoming and kind when discussing our cake. She had great ideas and understood the vision for the wedding and how the cake should fit into it. She sketched out a cake that perfectly fit our decor. And the tasting! YUM. The flavors are creative and well executed. We actually had a hard time choosing. We ended up doing half red velvet and half golden amaretto. On the evening of the wedding, I got teary when I saw the cake--it was WAY better than I had even imagined. I could not get over how perfectly it matched the other decor. The cake tasted amazing also of course! The guests went crazy for it and we were thrilled. Can't wait to enjoy our complimentary anniversary cake next year!

The wedding cake not only was amazing in taste but was designed just as we discussed at our tasting. The design was taken from a few different images that we discussed and came it out perfect . It met all over our expectations. The (2) flavors we selected impressed our guests especial the red velvet tier. My grandmother has always made the best red velvet cake we have ever had and she had Icing on the Cake's at the wedding and was very impressed and even mentioned it may be better then hers which is a very high compliment. We certainly would recommend them for any event, they had so many great flavors to choose from that it was very difficult to narrow down. Thanks to Icing on the cake for the perfect wedding cake.

All I have to say is that some of my guests had two or three slices of my wedding cake because it was that good! TIOTC worked with me to have 3 different flavors to satisfy my husband and my tastes. They provided us with gluten free cupcakes for our guests and they were in constant contact to make sure they had the right design we wanted. It ended up looking as good as it tasted! The buttercream frosting as also to die for!

For the rehearsal dinner I ordered a groom's cake with a special 3-D design. It ended up looking so great and my husband was surprised and loved it! They were able to replicate our dog in the bed of my husband's truck and it just looked fabulous!

At the last minute TIOTC was also able to rent us a gorgeous silver cake stand since it was something I had overlooked. They made the tasting process fun and even gave me samples at another time so my husband (who was overseas the first time) could try the cakes! All that coupled with their great prices I would highly recommend The Icing on the Cake to anyone in the Boston area!

when my husband and i went to our cake tasting, we were blown away! everything was SO yummy!!! i can't exactly say the same for our wedding cake on the day of our wedding. we had requested a marble cake and it was dry and tasted like they mixed lemon cake and choclolate cake, instead of chocolate and vanilla. the presentation on the cake was perfect!!!! i had created a kind of complicated cake and they nailed it!!!! overall, i really liked the cake, just kind of disappointed with the taste.

We met 1 other bakery and were supposed to meet another one after our meeting with The Icing On The Cake. We ended up cancelling that other meeting immediately after our meeting with The Icing On The Cake. I don't know what to say other than the cake looked great, tasted even better, and was priced well within our budget for the size cake that we wanted. Our meeting with them to do tastings and get a quote was a breeze. We were given plenty of choices for designs and flavors, and the baker was very patient with us as we were having trouble choosing from all the beautiful designs. We also had a custom cake topper that we purchased from a third party, as well as flower petals that the florist would use to decorate the cake and table and it all turned out perfectly. I highly recommend The Icing On The Cake.

This is a company we use for all of our special occasions, and from our wedding to my cousins birthday they are always the best. The cake tastes great and looks fantastic. For our wedding we asked for them to recreate our china pattern, and from matching the exact color to the beautiful design it was spot on. We could not be happier.

TIOTC did an absolutely perfect job with our cake! Not only was the cake delicious but it was exactly what we wanted and looked exactly like the sketches they created for us.

The Icing on the Cake was the exclusive vendor for my reception site, but I literally could not have been happier. Both the look and the taste of the cake exceeded my expectations. Firstly, many people at my wedding commented that it was the best wedding cake they had ever eaten. We did red velvet - which is made with organic beet concentrate instead of red food dye!!! - and the chocolate mousse on different tiers. Both were superb and their butter cream exterior is just as tasty. No fondant in sight! Secondly, we brought them a photo from a wedding blog and asked them to recreate it. And it was simply a PERFECT reproduction. We had to pay $135 to upgrade to a square cake and pay for more colors for our design, but it was totally totally worth it. My mom wants to get cakes from them for all occasions now, which is saying something because she is a serious baker herself. Great cake, great experience.

My husband and I had tried multiple bakeries to find the best tasting cake for our wedding. We found it at Icing on the Cake in Newton. The cake was so delicious and we got many compliments from our guests. Paula, the owner helped us with the design and had so many great ideas for us. She also found ways to reduce the cost for us so we could have multiple flavors at a lower cost. She was so easy to work with. We even get a free anniversary cake for sending her a picture of our cake at the wedding.

Paula did a great job figuring out what we wanted in our price range. We did not feel rushed when we picked out our cake. The tasting was to die for as all the cakes were so delicious! We ended up using them for our groom's cake, shower cake and my parent's anniversary party. Everyone at the wedding ate the cake and could not stop telling us how beautiful it was outside and tasty inside!

My husband and I really enjoyed our cake tasting. We gave Paula our wish list, and the actual cake exceeded our expectations! Many guests commented that our wedding cake was the best wedding cake they had ever had. We can't wait for our one-year complimentary anniversary cake!

We chose the Icing on the Cake because they were part of our package. The other vendors had mixed reviews so we only did one tasting. Our tasting was great. Paula was welcoming, she took all the notes than photocopied them for us. We paid an extra fee for the design and also for extra filling (something like $90. My hubby is a huge chocolate fan so it was a treat for him!). We didn’t want fondant and were really excited to find out that we could have a buttercream frosted cake.

The cake looked perfect and was delicious. The Icing on the Cake also gives a free anniversary cake when you send them a photo of your cake so we decided to enjoy our leftovers instead of freezing them. Everyone says the cake doesn’t taste as good a year later so why waste it!

Paula suggested gluten-free cupcakes for our guests who are allergic and we were very excited by this option. Unfortunately, something happened between the delivery and dinner and our guests never got them. It sounds like they may have gotten lost in the shuffle at the hotel. At any rate, Paula offered to reimburse us for them even though they were delivered to the hotel. I'm very impressed by how the situation was handled.

I would highly recommend this company for your wedding cake.

If you need a cake then look no further. I am super picky about my cake. It must be moist, sweet enough without being too sugary, light and fluffy cream icing. I'm drooling just thinking about my cake. And not to mention the decedent flavors and designs. Our cake was so elegant and EXACTLY what we designed and asked for. It was delivered on time and without any issues. Excellent communication! Excellent service! Superb Cake! Oh and we tried the other two places that most couples visit; over priced and too common. One place we felt like we were not given enough individual attention and you could tell the cakes are frozen/refrigerated because the filling bled into the cake; the other place was good but just not perfect enough.

I chose Icing on the Cake because of the great job they did with my cousin's wedding cake. They had friendly service and the cupcakes tasted amazing! I am not "cake obsessed" like many brides I've met, but the aesthetics of the cupcakes and top cake were unreal!!! So beautiful. The pictures looked like they were out of a wedding magazine! What more could you ask for?

We had such a great experience with the Icing on the Cake! We met with Paula for a consultation meeting - she listened to what we wanted and then began to sketch out the cake right there while we were meeting with her! We also got to taste about 5 slices of really delicious cakes. We went to try other vendors in the area and nothing even came CLOSE to tasting as amazing as TIOTC's cakes. My husband and I were blown away with how good they were.

She also had several cakes for weddings at the store - so we were able to see some of her finished products - they were all beautifully decorated. Paula really had a lot of helpful insight, but she truly listened to our design estethic as well.

Over the next couple of months, we made a couple of changes to our cake. Paula was always very responsive to phone calls/emails and I felt very confident about working with her. She called to check in about the final version of our cake a few days before the wedding and again, every detail was perfect.

The day of the wedding, I could not believe how beautiful our cake was when I got the reception. It was better than I had pictured in my head and it tasted fabulous! All our guests were raving about the presentation and the taste - most said it was the best wedding cake they have ever had! So, overall we were COMPLETELY satisfied and happy with our experience with TIOTC. I am just waiting to have another excuse to order a cake from them - they are that good :)

My wedding was at the Omni Parker House, and part of their wedding package was a cake from either The Icing on the Cake or another major Boston-area wedding bakery. I'd heard horrible things about the other bakery so I made an appointment at TIotC and was totally charmed. They were sweet and seemed genuinely excited to be a part of our wedding. The cake was beautiful and absolutely delicious - everyone loved it. My husband (!) and I are very much looking forward to getting our anniversary cake next year.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Paula and The Icing on the Cake. Our consultation was a lot of fun. Paula listened to what we wanted and did a brilliant sketch of the product for us - it was great to finally have a vendor who could give you a "picture" rather than just having to imagine what something would look like. The cakes were also amazingly delicious and we had many guests (including picky ones!) talk about the cake for weeks after the wedding.

My one less than perfect experience was when I came in to the store about a week before the wedding with a color sample. I had told Paula the time I'd be coming in and was told that worked fine. When I got there, however, the place was swamped and Paula was unavailable. A young man working the register took the sample and sort of threw it to the side of the cash register without putting my name or anything on it. I ended up asking for the sample back and writing my own name on it. While I completely acknowledge that this could have been my personal Bridezilla moment (I swear I had very few!) that whole exchange made me nervous and I would have appreciated a little more attention when ordering a cake that cost over $1000.

Overall though, using this vendor was a pleasure and I'd definitely recommend TIOTC to other brides in the area!

Our cake was a traditional, classic, three-tiered round cake, blue and purple clustered flowers.
We went with Lemon Raspberry and Chocolate Amaretto Tiers, and they were delicious. Our guests were very impressed with how large the pieces were, and we still had leftovers!!! 362 days til we get our anniversary cake :)

We got soooooo many compliments on our cake at/after our wedding. Several guests asked to take some home and said it was the best wedding cake they'd ever had.

Paula was also terrific to work with. I really felt like we had her undivided attention during our delicious tasting. She listened carefully to what I imagined for the cake and gave great advice on how to combine all of the elements I wanted without making the cake look busy.

I definitely intend to go back to Paula for any future cake occasions.

Paula was awesome to work with. I used her for my June 19, 2010 wedding. She knew exactly the kind of design we were looking for and it came out perfect. Not to mention the inside was just as amazing as the outside. We got the golden raspberry and chocolate chocolate mousse and both were to die for. I only wish I had gotten to eat more of it at the wedding! And I cant wait to eat the top of the cake.

We met with the owner and she took our ideas and designed us the perfect cake. They called us a week before to confirm everything. The cakes for our wedding could not have been more beautiful and delicious. Paula and team were wonderfully helpful in designing exactly what we wanted and everyone complimented both the looks and taste of the cake. The last thing I did before I left the venue was grab a (few) pieces of cake to go- it was phenomenal. They designed the groom's cake just as I asked and it was even better than I expected!

Icing on the Cake had such an easy process for selecting a cake. We went in for a consultation where we looked through some photos for inspiration, tasted a bunch of cake and filling flavors, and went home. Paula sketched up two potential designs we were thinking about, and priced them for us. Then one month before the wedding we ordered what we wanted. We ended up choosing different flavors on different layers (I wanted carrot cake, my husband is more of a chocolate lover), and it turned out perfectly. I personally don't like American-style wedding cakes, but it was one of the best I've had. Yummy, and highly recommended!

Paula did an amazing job. We had 5 different cakes of all different flavors. I received so many compliments on them all. I only got to enjoy one of the five but it was so good. Everyone who complimented mentioned how wedding cakes aren't usually very good but these were moist, light and flavorful. Would recommend again in a second. Her carrot cake is amazing!!

The cake was delicious, even though I only had a bit at my wedding, we took our top part, saved two pieces in the freezer, and ate the rest 4 days after the wedding and it was delicious! I would have liked the cake to be more jazzed up, decorations wise. We had cascading roses, all white, all white cake, and I would have liked it to be bigger, but it still looked beautiful and elegant, the look I was going for.

Our wedding cake was incredible! We got married in Philadelphia but the groom had grown up in Boston and his family had ordered cakes from here for many years. Icing on the Cake was extremely flexible and helpful - they put together a delicious cake for us, packed it up carefully for the drive down, and made it available when we needed it a few days early in order to make the trip. It traveled really well, and even our caterer agreed that it was delicious (despite wanting us to use their cake instead!). Definitely recommended.

This is the best place in Boston! Before deciding to book a tasting appointment here, I tried cupcakes from many different cake vendors in and around Boston. The cupcakes at Icing on the Cake blew all the others out of the water. They are absolutely positively delicious!

When I went for my tasting, Paula, the owner and designer was an absolute pleasure to work with. She helped us design a gorgeous and affordable cake. On the big day, they delivered the cake on time and my guests were raving about it!

The Icing on the Cake is my new favorite cake bakery. The cake itself is delicious - the crumb is delicate and moist, and the frosting is to die for - real buttercream, no fondant. It tastes like a homemade cake, but is much more beautiful. Paula was wonderful to work with - she was able to steer us towards the perfect size and decorations, and accommodated fairly late additions to our order.

Planning with The Icing on the Cake was great, they had a lot of flavors to taste and choose from, and several books to look through for ideas. The Icing on the Cake was great to work with. T hey were very flexible and accomodating. I changed what I wanted a few times and they got involved in a back and forth between my mother and us also. They handled everything wonderfully and our cake turned out exactly like the picture I found. (I found a picture on the internet and took it to them, so I did not choose one of their own designs). I don't remember eating cake at my wedding, but I think everyone else liked it, and I know it was good when we went for our cake tasting. They are definitely a great choice.

We opted to eat our cake topper 1 week after the wedding - and ended up eating it throughout our honeymoon and it was fantastic!

Delicious cake, awesome woman, great price. Paula does not use fondant, which is key. The cake looked gorgeous, and tasted even better. She even did an incredible hand drawing on the groom's cake.

Of all our wedding vendors, Paula at TIOTC was by far the best! She and her team exceeded our expectations every step of the way, from designing the perfect cake with our styles in mind, to matching color schemes perfectly. The cake tastes amazing, too! We highly recommend the gold cake laced with Grand Marnier . . . simply amazing! The best part - our cake was included with our wedding package at the country club where we got married. We only paid $30 in upgrades but the sugar calla lilies and square and circle cake layer combinations was worth every cent!!!

The Icing on the Cake was fantastic. We went with a lemon velvet cake (lemon + raspberry) and it was absolutely delicious. We got numerous compliments from our guests on not only how good the cake tasted but how wonderful it looked. Paula was wonderful to work with and was even flexible when we called her up the weed before the wedding and asked that she deliver a second cake (father's day was the next day) along with our original order. Choosing The Icing On The Cake was not a choice, it was a given. My family chooses these cakes for all of our birthday parties, Bat Mitzvahs, Anniversaries, and celebrations, and with each bite I am reminded of why! The owner created a beautiful and delicious cake for my wedding! Everyone commented that it was the best wedding cake that they had ever had (and they were right, it was)! Most guests said that they went up to have two slices - one of each flavor!!!! I highly recommend Icing On The Cake!

Wedding Cake for Dummies

Trying to plan a wedding while juggling 2 full-time demanding careers was finally starting to break our spirits, and we still hadn't picked a cake only 3 weeks before the wedding. Paula to the rescue! She broke the process down into a step-by-step process for us, complete with simple-to-follow charts and diagrams - seriously! We were in and out of her shop within 40 minutes, but the cake looked and tasted so good that guests thought we had shopped around for months. Paula's final words to us as we skipped out of the bakery were "Cross the cake off your to-do list!" This was music to our ears.

The Icing on the Cake was the first bakery we visited. We decided while we were at our tasting to use them. Paula was great and the cake was great.

Our cake was actually a cupcake tree, which turned out amazing! Very delicious and very well decorated! The prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommended! :-)

Working with Icing on the Cake was a great experience. They had several of example cakes to look at while chosing and creating your own, so it made the process interactive and fun. Our wedding cake was exactly what I had expected it to look like.....and ALL the guests commented on how good it tasted.

Choosing The icing on the cake for our wedding was a great choice! The owner was extremely professional, the cake was amazing (beautiful, delicious, and designed exactly to our liking). We could not have asked for more! The owner was incredibly accomodating and helpful. Everyone loved our cake and won't forget it!

THE most delicious cake I have ever eaten. I don't mean wedding cake, I mean CAKE. It's fantastic! So easy going, gorgeous work, AND delicious!

I brought in a picture of the cake I wanted and they were very honest about how close they could match it. I would have liked a little more scrolls but overall I was very please with the design and the tase of the cake. I also LOVE the offer of a free anniversary cake with a professional photo!

Absolutely fabulous! Our wedding cake was light, tasty and decadent - our guests loved the variety of flavors within one cake (we did a four-layer cake, and each layer had a different flavor and filling).

The owner was knowledgable and upbeat - just the right combination for a bride! - and the tasting was really fun and relaxed. Though they did not use fondant on my cake, it looked smooth and elegant. We're looking forward to our one-year anniversary!

Icing on the Cake was fabulous to work with. The cake tasted great and turned out beautiful. I ordered extra cake to have at the brunch the next day and it was all gone at the wedding. People are still telling me how great it tasted. I wanted my cake to be unique and colorful and they were happy to accommodate. It was a pleasure all around and I was so happy with the result.

The cake looked amazing, just like we had planned and withstood the warm weather beautifully. We weren't overly impressed with the taste however.

They were suggested through our venue (Hotel Marlowe) and they were great! The had no problem with helping us figure out what was good for *us* and not just what was good for *standard wedding*

The Icing on the Cake was the second bakery we met with. Paula, the designed, sat with us in a room and let us pore through photos of other cakes, but encouraged us to do our own thing. We came up with a cake design nobody had done before, that tied in all the little things we wanted. I was so excited about it, I woke up my fiance at 6am the next day to tell him I thought we should book them.

The cake was delicious on the day of the wedding - no leftovers. It looked lovely, exactly what we were envisioning. I was really thrilled with it.

Paula is amazing. We wanted a cake that only used butter cream, not fondant. She was able to make the intricate design without using fondant but making it look smooth and beautiful. Not to mention that the cake/frosting taste amazing!
