The Old Church
Reviews for The Old Church

The Old Church is a lovely little historic site in downtown Portland and made a perfect setting for our wedding. The cost is incredibly reasonable for a downtown wedding and we were able to have both the ceremony and reception all at one place. The church also allows you to bring in your own food or caterer and only asks that if you serve alcohol that it be catered by a licensed professional. We were able to significantly reduce our food costs by buying food from Costco and bringing it in ourselves. Although they allow alcohol they do not allow red drinks of any kind, including red wine.
Throughout the planning process, the ladies who care for the church were very helpful and quick to answer any questions that came up. Although not a wedding coordinator, there is a staff member present to answer questions during the rehearsal as well as the actual wedding.
Future brides need to be aware that for an evening wedding at this church the music must be turned down or off completely by 10pm due to the church's close proximity to apartments nearby. This was not clearly stated in our paperwork and caused a moment of frusteration for us. Otherwise, everything was very well organized and went smoothly. The church looks especially gorgeous in the low lights of winter :)

My fiancé and I wanted to have a religious ceremony, but didn’t want it to be too reflective of either his faith or mine. The historic Old Church was the perfect venue. No longer home to a congregation, the Old Church is a superbly restored 19th century building that is open to anyone who wants to rent it. It is perfect for small and medium sized weddings; no one wants the church to look empty if your guests number under 150! The ornate pipe organ not only makes for a beautiful focal point, but still sounds beautiful. With rental of the church, you get a wedding coordinator, in our case a gentleman named Barry, who knew how to keep our large wedding party in line, and kept everything running smoothly. In advance of the wedding, they provided us with the contact information for all sorts of vendors and clergy that they would recommend. My bridesmaids and I got ready in a beautiful anteroom, and the boys waited for their cue in a basement room. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the church was, and it made a lovely backdrop for many of our photographs.

The atmosphere of our evening wedding was amazing. Barry the wedding coordiator was excellent.

Great classic place to get married. Was very affordable and great for a 100-150 guest wedding. We had a Friday night wedding and were able to get the sanctuary and reception area for $1000, which in the area was a steal. It has a beautiful organ and a great classy feel. We got married at about 7 pm and added our own candles, and it was perfect. There were gardens near to take pictures for outdoor shots as well as beautiful unique rooms with stain glass windows. The people who helped to organize the event were prepared and organized. They also have a list of organists if you want someone to play, we had our own music.
It was probably a little small for all our guests to be there, and there wasn’t enough seating for our 100-150 guests. Probably should have gotten a larger reception hall, but it helped us to save money. Has a kitchen below downstairs to store food, and enough room to have a couple of tables to serve food and beverages. The site provided us with all the chairs and tables, and we bought our own linens.

Absolutely gorgeous site! The church is beautiful and seats enough guests for a medium-sized wedding, which I liked because large sanctuaries can detract from the wedding if it's not adequately full. The contacts for The Old Church are wonderful. The beautiful pipe organ in the Old Church is gorgeous and a wonderful asset to the ceremony. I didn't like that we only had a 3 hour time slot. It made for a very difficult photo session before the wedding. And we didn't have the reception here because the area for the reception had only enough room for a more casual, standing, cake and punch reception.

The church is a beautiful old church in downtown Portland. It has a lovely steeple and the stained glass windows are pretty too. The church is big enough for a mid-moderate sized wedding and there is an adjoining room (lovely!) that is large enough for a reception as well. We had over 150 people at ours and there was plenty of room. I liked that we could do the wedding and reception in one place so our older guests wouldn't have to drive all over downtown from place to place. The church also provided a beautiful backdrop for photos!

I had my ceremony here. I have always loved The Old Church and knew I wanted to get married there. They book up quick, so you have to be flexible with your date or book way in advance.
Vintage style, close in downtown, and beautiful interior. have your ceremony and reception all in one place. very affordable by the way.
About The Old Church
The Old Church no longer serves congregational needs. It operates as an independent historical society and maintains no religious affiliation. This enables each couple to select the officiator of their choice, whether it's a pastor from your home church or a family friend. Our event coordinators are happy to assist you in finding an officiator from our list of nondenominational ministers if needed.
