The River Plantation
My husband and I would not have had a wedding had it not been for the River Plantation. A month and a half before our wedding we found out that the wedding venue we had booked over a year ago was legally being shut down by the county for operating illegally. With over 200 guests scheduled to be arriving for our big day in about 45 days, we were devastated. I called every place I could find in Annapolis and across the Bay Bridge. Luckily, I found the River Plantation and Linda, the Director of Sales, to save the day! Linda called me the day I left a message, which was also her day off, and let me know she would try to help. My mom and I were out there the next Monday. It was perfect! And, Linda was AMAZING to work with!!! She listened to my vision for the day, offered wonderful suggestions, worked with the caterer we had originally booked, and made sure our day went perfect. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Linda! And, our pictures are gorgeous!!!! People are still talking about our wedding! I highly recommend this venue. Not only is it gorgeous, but the people you will be working with are wonderful. When you are planning a wedding, you want everything to go as smoothly as possible. Our day ended up being more incredible than I could have ever imagined. I definitely feel that the River Plantation played a large part in that.
I had my reception at Hunter's Oak Golf Course (The River Plantation) on June 9th 2012. The reception went beyond smooth and our wedding coordinator, Linda Simpson, bent over backwards to make the day perfect. The reviews below are unfortunate because this is a beautiful venue and the fact that they have a permanent tent with solid flooring and air conditioning is rare and exceptional. Yes, there were a few hurdles to get through but that stuff happens, the real blessing is to have people like Linda help you through those hurdles and by the day of your wedding, it's what you dreamed it would be. Our cocktail hour was held in the Manor House where the main room has beautiful windows, lots of space and a ton of old school golf club charm. There is a back patio where guests can also hang out before the reception. Our reception was held in the permanent tent and Linda made sure everything flowed without a hitch. Thank you again for making this such a special and memorable day.
BEWARE. Do not use this vendor. They took our deposit, and when we had to cancel the wedding( in the appropriate time frame) they stopped taking our calls and took our money. They are not honest or professional. This not a company that you want to use for your special day.
This venue is in the process of going bankrupt. Be very careful before you book a date or leave them any deposit money.
The River Plantation is a BEAUTIFUL venue. Normally, it would have been out of my price range - but because our original venue had fallen through, we were on a short timeline and they were desperate to book the date as well, so they were much more flexible on price than I would assume they usually are. We were able to get married at Pintail Point, which is simply stunning, without having to rent out the bed and breakfast (which needs a price reduction and some serious updating). The cocktail hour was held in the manor house - which is gorgeous. The food was fabulous. The reception was held in the semi-permanent tent that has gorgeous draping on the interior, air conditioning and a carpeted floor. Everything was simply beautiful and perfect. Heather was our coordinator - and while new to the venue, she did everything in her power to make sure the day went exactly as planned. Overall, The River Plantation was the perfect venue for me and I would suggest anyone looking to get married on the Eastern Shore check it out before booking anything else!
We didn't have a great coordinator, but the venue, food, manor house, golfing, etc... was AMAZING. We had beautiful weather, the sunset wedding package and had a truly amazing wedding weekend. The girls at the bed and breakfast manor house took such good care of us and anything we wanted they were willing to get for us. There isn't anything we would have changed. I highly recommend this venue to anybody looking to make their wedding a fun filled weekend event, but you'll have to manager the coordinators a little bit, since there has been some turnover and new faces. If you are hands on, you'll be fine and have a wonderful wedding event!
The River Plantation was a wonderful venue! We really lucked out with the weather.
We were married outside by the water (They put up a tent free of charge) because of the chance of rain but luckily we did not need it.
The reception was help at Hunter's Oak in a big tent out back. It was everything I wanted!
A few details fell through the cracks but otherwise things ran very smoothly.
We had a lot of compliments about the food too. We did a duo of crab cakes and steak.
Tiffany was wonderful to work with! She even met us in Annapolis to look at linens because we had a hard time finding one we liked.
I would definitely recommend The River Plantation to anyone.
We love The River Plantation and Tiffany! It was our dream venue and everything was amazing! From the first interaction, Tiffany was nothing short of professional, friendly and extremly helpful! We loved the venue but working with her made the entire experience top notch! She responded to emails or phone calls in what seemed like minutes and made us feel like we were the only wedding she was working on everytime we spoke. I can not say enough about how easy she made everything for us!
My husband and I and our families stayed at the Manor House for the weekend of our wedding and then had the reception at Hunter's Oak. We were catered to from the moment we stepped on the property Friday until Sunday afternoon when we left! Ann, the housekeeper at The Manor House, went out of her way at every opportunity to make us feel relaxed and taken care of. She was a fabulous addition to our weekend!
Our ceremony was incredible and luckily the weather held out. There was a chance of rain that day and so Tiffany had a tent set up on the property of the Manor House in case the showers began. I am glad we didn't need it, but to know that she had everything covered just in case speaks to her effort to make everything as perfect as can be.
Our reception at Hunter's Oak was incredible. Food was spectacular, service was wonderful and guests couldn't stop talking about it then and now. My mother has received a multitude of phone calls from guests thanking them and raving about the entire wedding. Tiffany and The River Plantation made our wedding weekend spectacular! We are blown away with how amazing our wedding was!
The River Plantation was pretty expensive, but it was beautiful, and we got the whole Pintail Point manor house to ourselves all weekend. It was so great to have all of the bridal party staying in one place together - and a gorgeous location, no less, complete with a pool and game room. We had a fantastic weekend!
The food at our reception was amazing - I'd love to have the chicken piccata again. And everyone else loved the steak and crab imperial. Coconut lobster tails - fantastic! We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting to pick out all of the food as well. It was a lot of fun and the River Plantation team hosted us well.
One thing I would have liked for the price we paid was more flexibility. When I got the initial tour, it also seemed like there would be quite a bit of flexibility, like with the number of people staying in the manor house, decorations, etc. But as we got further into the planning, there were more restrictions and things that I thought had originally been communicated one way started changing. Such are the challenges of communication though, so this may have been just as much my fault.
Also, I ask a lot of questions and am very detail-oriented, which went great on the front end with the on-site wedding coordinator - part of why I picked this venue - but as the planning progressed, I sensed more annoyance and impatience with answering questions.
On the day of our wedding though, Tiffany (the wedding coordinator) was great. She made sure everything was taken care of and that neither my mom nor I had reason to stress. It was also really nice to have my own bridal suite where the girls could get ready. The guys enjoyed shooting that morning and had their own place to get ready because we rented the Irishtown house as well.
It poured the morning of our wedding day, but the sun came out by late morning. There was already a tent set up for the outdoor ceremony b/c of the rain, but I really wanted the ceremony to be outdoors, so Tiffany found a good solution by having the sides of the tent rolled up. She managed to keep me from finding out we were under tornado warnings so I wouldn't freak out and would enjoy the entire day.
People literally saw water spouts as they crossed the Chesapeake bridge in a downpour, but God kept a pocket of sunshine following us the whole day. When it was sunny at the ceremony, it was raining less than 5 minutes away at the reception site. His presence was obvious and incredible!
I was a little nervous about having the reception in a tent, even though it's a permanent tent. But it also turned out just fine - no mosquitoes, no leaks, not too hot. It's tough to make a tent look really dressed up, but with some large flower arrangements, paper lanterns, and white lights on ficus trees and the head table, we had a really nice atmosphere.
All in all, the venue was great and I would choose it again. It is truly a beautiful location with first-class service.
Some things you may want to know on the front end are: the site is strict about the number of people who can stay in each manor house; they don't like to store decorations the days before the wedding b/c of liability; they don't have decorations available for use; if you want choices for your seated meal, you'll be doing a lot of work on your end b/c they prefer not to offer choices; we didn't hear the shooting range during the ceremony, which is something my mom was concerned about; you'll need to pay extra if you want more than one shuttle taking guests between the ceremony and reception; you won't be able to book extra time during the reception if you're having a really good time - Tiffany tried to make this work for us, which was great, but her staff needed to go.
My wedding was absolutely PERFECT! The staff at the River Plantation worked with my fiance and I to create a wedding weekend that truely represented who we were. We (my fiance, our immediate families, and I) stayed at the Plantation House for the entire weekend. The Plantation staff served everyone breakfast in the morning and helped with the entire wedding process. All staff members worked very hard to ensure that our weekend was exactly as we pictured it. Tiffany, our wedding coordinator, went above and beyond to make sure each detail was attended to. The food was amazing and each guest complimented the beautiful site. I would strongly recommend this venue to everyone!!! (especially if you or your fiance like to hunt, fish, golf, or shop at the outlets).
We loved our wedding. Tiffany Porter did a fantastic job making sure everything went according to plan. Shane and I didn't have to worry about anything. Hunter's Oak should really appreciate having her on their staff. She is one of a kind. The only thing we missed was the cocktail hour food. We wish we each had gotten a small plate.
Everything we questioned and asked about was taken care of; even planting flowers in the flower pots the week of the wedding. Our guests had a wonderful time and most said it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
Thank you for making our dreams come true!

We recently had our reception at Hunter's Oak. We could not have been more pleased. Forget hiring a wedding planner, their staff handles EVERYTHING! The reception went beyond my expectations. The food was only rivaled by the atmosphere. Our guests complimented that they felt they were in a five star restaurant. Forget the cut and paste wedding venues, the River Plantation allows you to essentially customize your wedding. Pick and choose what you want from their array of capabilities. Their responsiveness was uncannying. Emails were always promptly returned and worries were always calmed in minutes. I couldn't have envisioned a better day and I couldn't have envisioned it anywhere but Hunter's Oak!
Tiffany Porter was great - a fantastic help with all of the details, and was very responsive to each and every phone call and e-mail throughout the process. If she thought there was a better way to do something than what I had planned, she suggested it and I gladly took her advice since she's the professional on these matters. No complaints at all - she was a joy and a big help on our big day and leading up to it.
Our wedding was simply amazing at Pintail Point. In spite of a disastrous thunderstorm that occured an hour before the reception, everything was perfect! Most of our guests didn't even know the reception was actually supposed to be outside under the tent (which was flooded) instead of inside the manor house. What a professional group of people...they are true pros! We highly recommend Pintail Point....or any of the River Plantation venues for any event!!
We had the most horrible experience with this place. They were incredibly difficult to deal with, said no to almost everything (including things they originally said would be no problem), and didn't want to do anything. The wedding cordinator on site (Grace) is very rude and the catering manager is unknowledgeable. If you choose to deal with this place (at your own risk), use the manor house because Rene is the only helpful person there. It is kind of pretty, if you can ignore the hunting theme they have going on. I was told they would hide the pro shop when you walk into the welcome center and of course they didn't.They weren't ready to cut and serve the cake to our guests after we did the first cut. Our DJ had to make an announcement to get them prepared. Do not use this place or you will be full of regrets!!!
I loved the River Plantation and although it is a bit $$$$, you do get what you pay for. The service was 5 star and my day was perfect, in no small part to their service!
Rick, the manager, was awesome! His wife even helped me out at the last minute with wedding party hairdos. I would recommend getting married here, it was absolutely gorgeous and the food was great!!!
You can develop a wedding event that provides an array of quaint and charming sites and expansive views of the Wye River, all totally immeresed in the natural beauty of Maryland's Eastern Shore.
