Reviews for The San Luis Resort, Spa, & Conference Center

The San Luis is a beautiful venue but a bit strict and return calls or emails right away for the price you pay. All in all it is a great location and the gazebo area we had our ceremony overlooking the ocean is wonderful. I would recommend it for the beauty alone since Houston does not have to many venues like this to offer. The food was also very good. I do think my florist Fantasy Florals really make the room even more beautiful.

The Restaurant attached to the hotel was a nice place to have the rehearsal dinner. Although the service was a little slow.

There were ups and downs about The San Luis. Picking this location is really going to depend on what the bride and groom are looking for.
First of all the coordinator Stacey Mitchell is WONDERFUL! She was very responsive to all of my questions and was more than willing to help out with the details. Also, the food was the best wedding food I have ever had. Which was very important to us. They are conveniently located on the island and it was pretty easy for everyone to find a place to stay.
The down side to the resort is that the lobby and mainsail ballroom is pretty outdated; as well as, the rooms in the hotel. Its slightly disappointing considering the amount that my guest had to pay to stay there. Another down side is that the spa doesn't offer group discounts to the bride and her party or family. I had a total of 6 ladies that had hair and make up done in the spa and I didn't receive a discount. Most other companies will offer this. Therefore, I would suggest hiring outside stylist for hair and make up. I was also upset that instead of putting my cake topper in a fridge they left it out in my room that doesn't have a fridge. Needless to say all of the frosting and filling melted.
If I had to do it again I probably would not choose The San Luis. Mainly because I feel there are other locations that have been more updated. But as I said there were some really great things about them.

Our day had a little confusion and miscommunication, but overall it was a fun time and the staff was great and quick to respond to our needs and last minute changes. We can't wait to see our pictures! Michelle Beckwith responded so quickly to any needs and questions, and the banquet arch was great as well!! The food was delicious and the service was great. It was a beautiful sunny day for our wedding ceremony!

We worked with Michelle at the San Luis to plan our wedding, and it was absolutely a JOY! She helped us plan it to be a true reflection of who we are as a couple :) We had a wonderful experience, and our guests did as well (still raving 6 months later)! Wonderful food, drinks, elegance, & so much fun....What more could you ask for for an island wedding event?!?!?

This was absolutely the best place to get married on Galveston Island! We booked the hotel about a year in advance. They were very helpful in planning out the itinerary for the evening. All of the catering for dinner was done by their hotel kitchen. The food was amazing- they have tons of options. The pricing was flexible with bar packages and the gazebo. What made things really easy was the list of preferred vendors. All of our vendors came from that list and they knew exactly how things happened at the San Luis, which made for a very stress free day. Stacy Mitchell was our coordinator and she ran a top-of-the-line day for us.

I cannot stress how amazing of a job the San Luis did for my wedding! Michelle Beckwith took care of everything!
You wouldn't believe how many compliments I received on the food, hotel, and linens! You will save so much money by going with the San Luis because you don't need to hire a caterer, coordinator, or linens company. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The San Luis is the best! Perfect setting, perfect service, fabulous food, even affordable....but the best thing about the San Luis is Stacey Mitchell, their event coordinator. She is a treasure who handled everything to perfection. Our guests were impressed with how lovely everything was and we all had a wonderful time.

I was supposed to have my wedding here at the San Luis but the hurricane had other plans. They did a great job on relocating me to another spot and if my wedding was there, I would of had a great wedding.

I had a very large wedding. The San Luis was 1 of 3 options in my budget. The Grand Ballroom was gorgeous, and an obvious choice! Since my wedding was so big and in the grand ballroom, I only had to meet a minimum in food and beverage sales, and there was no charge for the room, meaning I didn't have to pay a rental fee for the room, or any of the dinnerware/glassware/napkins, etc. They have thought of every detail. Stacey is amazing, and will help you in every way possible. She even booked the screen through a audio visual company so that we could show a sideshow. I dropped off my own decorations the morning of (favors, seating cards and escort cards, rose petals, coloring books for the kids), and her and her wonderful staff had already put out the decorations exactly as I had asked when I went in to have a sneak peak a few hours later. They provided several things for decorations (tablecloths, picture frame for my bridal portrait, candles, table numbers and stands) which saved me several hundred dollars. They also saved us by providing a brand new bentley to travel in. They picked us up from our church, and then looked like high society in our 'escape'. My husband and I were treated like royalty! We were served first in the buffet. My food was phenomenal. We got the most compliments on the lemon shrimp bow tie pasta. I heard the chicken was dry from a few friends, however I asked for extra sauce, and thought mine was delicious. My plate was overflowing with food. During the menu tasting, it was made very clear that we could choose anything they offered, and they could create any style of dinner service around it. The selection was huge, but I ended up going with one of there menus, with very little changes (regular salad instead of caesar). The San Luis is very flexible with the beverages as well. We weren't sure how much wine our guests would drink since we had 2 kegs. Stacey suggested having a starting max. She came to us when they had 10 bottles left of our max, and asked if we would like any more bottles opened. That was so helpful, because that way we didn't buy to little, and we stopped serving at what we could afford, and at a time (30 minutes after dinner) we were comfortable with. The price seems high when first looking at the San Luis to the modest budget, but it was definitely worth it. And you can customize it to be as expensive or inexpensive as you would like, all while having the expensive look. Lastly, we had a free honeymoon suite. It was decorated with rose petals everywhere! It was sooo beautiful! We also had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room. It was magical!
