The Thursday Club

I didn't give the venue the highest rating, but we were VERY happy with this place. I really couldn't say the managers were particularly responsive or professional, per se, but they get the job done and the location is beautiful and it fit what we were looking for exactly. It was built in the 1920s and has lovely architectural details and a breathtaking view of the ocean. It has a home-y feel with a fireplace in one room, and a living room set-up in another room. It was a bit pricey, considering it doesn't come with anything except the ambiance, and you must bring in literally everything (the dining chairs they offer are horrid), but it's all pricey when it comes to a wedding, and for a similar venue, I guess it was priced equally. You can't do a lot of decorating, either, but it's really not needed here.
You need to do an afternoon wedding, because it's in a residential neighborhood and has a curfew for noise, all out by 9:30pm! We did a no-host after party down the hill in Point Loma. It worked out perfectly, got married in the garden. The managers seem very strict initially, and there are a lot of rules, but they were great on the wedding day!
We heard many comments about the beauty of the location.

I got married here last weekend 10/28/12 and this place turned out great! This venue has spectacular views of the ocean and even better views of the sunset. The garden terrace where we had our ceremony did not need a single decoration added to it because it is so beautiful naturally. Our guests (mostly from the East Coast) have not stopped ranting and raving about it and I know that a few of the guests who all have weddings in their near future will now also be looking into the Thursday Club.
Our guests loved all of the different balconies off of the main reception room and enjoyed spending their cocktail hours outside taking in the views. I have only gotten a sneak peak of my weddings photos of the day thus far but I can honestly say it looks like the background sunsets were photoshopped into them, it's unreal.

Some people mentioned the downfall of having to be out of the venue by 9 pm because it is a residential area but this didn't end up effecting our wedding negatively in the long run. We had a nontraditional pre cocktail hour at 2-3, ceremony 3-3:30, post cocktail hour till 4:30, dinner served just after 5 which was perfect timing for the 6 PM sunset and starting the night off. Well, that and the fact that our wedding was on a Sunday (sunday funday). We had party buses pick up our guests at 8:45 PM and drive them out to the bars or back to hotels so that the night did not have to end.

Thursday Club is very beautiful but it comes with lots of challenges. The owners are hard to talk to and difficult. We also received many complaints from some vendors about working with them, many of our vendors said, "if you think they treat you bad, they treat us 10 times worse." Working with them definitely added a lot more stress to our wedding planning throughout the entire process up until the last minute of our wedding day. You must weigh out if the beautiful venue is worth the extra stress. Also no kegs or hard alcohol which is a bummer :(

Once we saw this place we knew it was where we would get married and have our reception. At our reception we received so many compliments on the location-everyone loved it! Be warned you might have a hard time getting people off the back patio because it has such a great view! Tom and Cookie were a pleasure to work. If you are looking for a great venue -this is the place! Beautiful garden for the ceremony and fantastic historic building for the reception-hidden gem!

We fell in love with the beautiful gardens, view and reception venue of The Thursday Club as soon as we walked around it. One of my favorite things is that every single corner is as scenic as the next.
We had about 175 guests so it was a pretty large reception for the building but it did end up working out very well and did not feel cramped at all.
We had wanted to do a plated dinner but the small kitchen doors made it a better idea to do food stations, which worked out great by having one in the room with the fireplace and another on the patio in front.

My only complaint is that they do not communicate via email so I always had to leave a message and wait for a return phone call.
