We went back and forth between VGI and Downtown Club. We really wanted an outdoor ceremony and loved VGI's setting and history, so we went with that. Although the venue is beautiful, we were quite disappointed with the tasting. We're a bit of food snobs and only cook with high-quality ingredients. I was disappointed to learn that none of the ingredients they use are organic, so I was hesitant to order several things. All of the hors d'voeurs we selected tasted stale or like they'd been sitting around for a while. The vegetarian risotto cakes tasted like stale, packaged rice cakes, so we decided against that dish right away. We tried the duck (which was a surprising highlight as it was cooked perfectly) and the prime rib. What we got was a ribeye steak that was brown and overcooked and tasted as unappetizing as it looked. At first we were told that they use a ribeye for their prime rib since it's "the same thing." When I finally spoke with a manager about it, he assured me that they do, in fact, roast a whole prime rib for the wedding. We took our chances and went with it and it was, in fact, very good, as was our duck. For the actual wedding, all of the food was great and things went smoothly. Tegan, the coordinator, was immensely patient with me and very helpful and accommodating in answering questions and working with me from across the country. The setting and weather were perfect and all of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue was. I'm so glad we went with VGI, even with non-organic food. :-)

I cannot say enough when it comes to the beauty of Valley Green Inn and the professionalism from its' staff. My husband and I met in the Wissahickon Park, and we were thrilled to be married there as well. We decided to book the entire Inn for the evening so our guests would have room to spread out and relax during the cocktail hour and reception.
What can I say? The food (appetizers, salad, main courses) was unbelievably delicious. The staff was kind, considerate and very attentive the entire night. The bar was stocked, and every single guest left happy, raving about how wonderful everything was. I loved working with Tegan and Emily: They were very easy to get in touch with, they responded to our phone calls and emails almost immediately, and they're simply WONDERFUL individuals. They are THEE BEST if you ask me!
I know that friends in the past have remarked how hard it is to plan a wedding:Quite honestly, nothing was hard about planning ours at The Valley Green Inn. Everything was simple, and everything was perfect. Our wedding was one of the best days of my life, and it's all thanks to Tegan, Emily, and the entire staff of the Valley Green Inn. THANK YOU!

We had a simple lunch at the Inn after a wedding ceremony elsewhere. The food was very good indeed, served quickly while it was hot. the servers were lovely people and very efficient. The only drawback was that the large addition to the Inn itself was inadequately heated and some of us wore our coats.
There is a parking problem potentially at the Inn but the staff took care of it very well and it bothered none of us. The venue is spectacular in a valley by the Wissahickon River. We saw wedding parties come by limo to get photographed by the water.

The Valley Green Inn is a perfect spot for a beautiful and intimate wedding and the food is excellent. The staff was helpful and reassuring every step of the way. Be sure to check it out.

Tegan and the staff at valley green inn were great! With the Sandy storm approaching, Tegan stayed in contact with me for all the details! We had a great back up plan but the power came back on just it time! It was great and very romantic!!! Best day ever!

I had my wedding at the Valley Green Inn this past fall and it was wonderful. The event staff were so helpful and pleasant throughout the entire process. They helped to keep me organized and focused on the details. They followed all of my instructions and set everything up beautifully. The Inn is one of the most beautiful places I could have imagined for my wedding day and they are very reasonably priced. I highly recommend it for any bride looking for a quaint, outdoor event.

I had an amazing time at my wedding and this is a lovely venue to host it! The centerpieces were exactly what we wanted, our guests raved about the food, and the beer selection was top notch. Tegan was always responsive and professional via email.
I had a few disappointments but it didn't stop me from enjoying the day as a whole. The biggest problem was the fact that the original wedding planner, Kate, left VGI about 3 months before my wedding. So I had spoken and signed a contract with her, and then had to work with 2 separate people when it came to execution of our agreement. In my contract, there was a statement that a tent would be provided if we wanted to use the extra part of the patio. A charge for a tent never appeared on any of our multiple invoices, nor was it ever discussed or mentioned beyond that it would be provided (much like the tables and chairs). But 3 months before the wedding, suddenly we got hit with a $2000 surprise charge for tent rental. What?! This was totally unprofessional in my view, and completely unacceptable when it wasn't mentioned in the contract or on any of the invoices up until that point, but we were stuck; we had no other options so we just ate the cost.
The other disappointments were small and didn't upset me too much, but are worth mentioning. Three of our tables lacked centerpieces. We asked to be served first so that we could start greeting tables, but we weren't served until 3 tables had gotten their meals and we had to chase down a waiter to be fed. I asked for a different dessert for myself, both Tegan and Kate confirmed it via email, and it was noted on the invoice as a special notation, but I never received it! The waitstaff noisily pulled the curtains shut in the middle of the toasts, knocking over a glass vase of water right behind our table in the process. Votives I'd hand-painted and asked be placed on the guest tables were scattered around the Inn. Even so, I had a great time and highly...

The Valley Green in was the perfect venue for us to have a medium-sized casual fall wedding.
The team at the venue are great to work with and are ready and able to help in any way they can. VGI is perfect for the bride that wants the planning process to be seamless and smooth - they really take care of everything! For me, I wanted to be a bit MORE involved in the process, and they were amenable, but had I not wanted to be involved at all, I would've walked into the perfect wedding.
Tegan and Emily are the dream team - completely aligned and on the same page for everything. They will also respond to your emails in, like, .5 seconds - perfect for the frazzled bride!
Not to mentioned how amazing the actual venue is - it doesn't get much more idyllic than the heart of Fairmount Park. It feels like a fairy tale.
I highly recommend VGI.

Tegan and Emily are amazing! They were so responsive throughout the planning period and were always willing to accommodate any special needs/requests. The venue itself is gorgeous as well, and we couldn't have asked for a better venue for our wedding. Absolutely perfect!

Loved Valley Green Inn. It's a beautiful and unique location. Their food is incredible! We had our rehearsal dinner and wedding there, and I heard nothing but compliments on the food. They were very accommodating to our specific needs. They happily created a private room and provided tea for our Chinese tea ceremony.
There was a switch in personnel in between the planning and the actual wedding. It led to understandable bumps and a little confusion, but Tegan smoothed everything out and made our wedding day easy and worry-free.

We recently were married here and could not have asked for a better venue. Everything was perfect. We love the Valley Green Inn and knew it would be our wedding spot from the first time we visited. I was a little hesitant about the size of the patio area for the number of guests (130), but Kate assured us that everything would work out. Kate was a pleasure to work with and met with my mom and me several times before the wedding to go over all the details. Kate actually stepped down from her position during our wedding planning and had 2 new coordinators step in- Tegan and Emily. We were a little nervous about the transition since we had previously met with Kate, but everything ran so smoothly and perfectly. I highly recommend Valley Green Inn for an intimate and unique wedding experience. We are still receiving compliments from our guests. Thank you!

Valley Green Inn was the perfect venue. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic. We eat brunch there quite often. The views are lovely and the guests had a good time. Kate, the coordinator, was responsive and friendly, very easy to work with. Parking is a bit tricky, even with the attendant, given it is part of a state park system, but no one complained about it. Thank you Valley Green for a wonderful day.

I just had my wedding reception in the side room of the Valley Green Inn and cannot recommend it highly enough. The lady in charge of coordinating events for the restaurant, Kate, is lovely, punctual with responses, knowledgeable, and good at her job. The reception itself looked beautiful, gorgeous floral centerpieces, attentive servers who were quick with hors d'oeuvres, and the wedding cake (they outsource the baking to Bredenbeck's Bakery in Germantown) was awesome. The buffet style brunch was tasty (so many guests agreed) which was such a bonus. Come on people, let's start throwing more receptions at restaurants instead of hotels, if only for the food. The food was great. People pretended they were embarrassed to go back for seconds, but go back they did.
If you want a pretty affordable reception venue where most all of the work is handled for you (food, linens, plates, flowers, bar) you should really go see this place. The location is lush and wonderful, and I'm happy to say I would rent this place again.
LOVE.

This venue is so top notch that there is no room to write all of the amazing things that I have to say about it. First and formost Kate Harron is AMAZING!!!!, my daughters wedding had to get planned in 3 months since she was marrying an army officer being sent to Germany and the couple were in Oklahoma the entire time with the groom doing training. I am the Mother of the Bride and have lived near the Inn for many years. When I started to try to plan the wedding I thought of the VGI first but decided I should still check out other venues including the Ritz, Moshalu and a host of other venues (I have OCD), well I should have never wasted the gas, VGI was perfection and when the Bride made a trip home to deal with some details, she too fell in love. On wedding day we walked into a reception that was so flawlessly executed that NO ONE had anything but rave reviews. I am a SUPER picky person but Kate made every single element of the decor items I provided look so much better than I could have imagined. it was flawless, the food was fabulous, the wait staff helpful and respectful, they were flexible and so over the top I just wish everyone would be able to have their reception there, and by the way they were also very reasonable and the house flowers were so much better than any florist and the cake is from Bredenbecks!, Kate you have a gift that suits you to a "T" and I for one hope that everyone you come in contact with realizes how amazing you truly are!!!

Perfect...even though we had less than perfect circumstances!
Our wedding was a week and half after Hurricane Irene. Yes, you can imagine the nerves. The nerves got worse when Kate (the wedding coordinator at the valley green inn) called me the DAY BEFORE our wedding to tell me there was currently another flood at the valley green inn property. Let me tell you...I caught some footage of the area online and we could have river rafted down the rive to say our vows - the river was actually touching the Valley Green Inn and I think water actually came in as well. Changing the venue was out of the question because we planned this "out of town" wedding from 3000 miles away. Kate worked her butt off to make sure I was calm with her "I'm taking care of everything" and "I will make sure we make this wedding happen for you" responses.
Everything I meticulously planned for our wedding day pretty much got left in Kate's hands. The morning of the wedding came with more surprises as the plumbing was not working.
Did I turn into a Bridezilla? Nope. Kate and the Valley green worked all night getting the dump trucks to ship out as much of the rocks and mud from the ceremony site so we could have a flat safe surface to have our ceremony. The staff worked overtime to clean up the venue to make it presentable and laid down astro turf out by the river because the grass got all washed away. They brought in brand new outhouses for the guests. We could not have the reception in the patio as planned, but the staff transformed the whole Valley green Inn restaurant into our reception venue with the DJ on the patio. Most of all, we had a wedding.
Kate and the Valley Green staff proved to be a venue of excellence. They made the worse circumstances turn into a day we will always remember. Who else can say they had a flood and port-o-potties at their wedding and still managed to have everyone say they had the best time!!!

I loved my wedding at the Valley Green Inn. Kate Herron was unbelievably quick to respond to many questions and emails. Easy to set up, easy and fun tasting dinner, and so smooth on the wedding day in May 2011. The 5:30pm ceremony outside on the lawn was threatened to move inside due to afternoon rain but they were quite flexible and set it up both ways.. with an outdoor ceremony at the end. I'd recommend this venue for smaller weddings - mine was about 90 people.

We had our wedding at Valley Green this past October 2010. It was just perfect! The setting makes the whole venue so special and quaint. We had a ceremony outside by the water and our reception on the outside covered patio. We had 118 guests which was tight for the size of the reception area, but the staff managed to seat everyone comfortably for dinner and move some tables after to make the dance floor larger. It was just right! Kate Harron, the planning facilitator, at the Inn was wonderful! She was easy to get in touch with at any time and helped everything run smoothly from start to finish. The staff was so great! The day before the wedding we dropped off all of our decorations with little notes for placement. I was taken back at how beautifully they arranged everything the day of the wedding. It was beautiful! And at the end of the night the staff even packed everything right back up for us to take home.
The food was delicious and the wedding cake provided was awesome!
So happy we chose the Valley Green Inn. If you want an intimate setting with a beautiful natural backdrop and wonderful help... this is the place for you!

We recently (Sept 18, 2010) had our wedding, ceremony and reception, at the Valley Green Inn. Everything was PERFECT! The site was beautiful, everyone kept commenting on how wonderful it was. The food was delicous and the portions were huge. We feel like we got a great value for what we paid, which was a really reasonable price. Kate, the wedding coordinator, was fabulous. She answered all of our questions in a fast and curtious manner and made us feel like we were the only ones that mattered. Everything flowed so nicely. The day was perfect and stress free. Thank you Kate and Valley Green for making our wedding day perfect!

We got married at the Valley Green Inn on May 30, 2010 and it was perfect. Kate Herron was absolutely amazing to work with. I bombarded her for months with inane and countless questions. She was always very quick to respond and so patient and kind in her answers. Our guests, most of whom are not from the area, had nothing but wonderful things to say about the location, the food and the service. The tasting was great, as was the food. Kate and the staff were so accomodating and really executed all the details I had planned flawlessly. The staff were so friendly and a pleasure to have around. When we booked, we knew it would become a favorite place of ours and it has! Every single time we stopped in for a drink or a meal, everyone was so pleasant and friendly. It truly is a great place for a wedding.

The Valley Green in was wonderful. We got so many compliments from guests on how beautiful our location was (of course, it definitely helped that we had fabulous weather). Kate was amazing to work with. She always got back to me right away and answered my ten million annoying questions with grace.

My wedding at the Valley Green Inn on November 7, 2009, was nothing short of a dream! The Inn's event coordinator, Kate Harron, is amazing! She was so thorough and detail oriented that nothing was left to chance. Kate and her staff at the Inn provided courteous and attentive service along with the highest level of professionalism. All of the guests raved about the food and had such a memorable time. I would recommend the Valley Green Inn to any Bride that wants an enchanting evening in one of Philadelphia's most historic locations. It is truly a unique location with an extraordinary staff.

The Valley Green Inn is a beautiful place, and one of my favorite spots in Philadelphia. Working with Kate Harron to coordinate my wedding was simple, straightfoward, and a pleasure. She is very responsive and understands the pressures of wedding planning. They provided everything as they said that they would, nothing was left to chance. The only two minuses, which I was made fully aware of from the start - so it was not a surprise - was that there is no room to get ready in (I threw my dress on in the ladies' room), and parking is public. I was blessed with the first perfect day of the year, so everyone and anyone was at the park. Some of my guests had to park in a further lot, but no one complained. Again, these were things I knew about going into it.

I loved our site- in the woods, historic inn- so beautiful and romantic. The onsite coordinator was efficient and helpful. The only downfall was that three of our tables were slightly apart from the rest. They were separated by a small stonewall. Originally the coordinator had said they could all fit but then two days before she said three tables would have to go on the outside part (not underneath the tent). It ended up being fine but I would have liked to have known this beforehand.

The venue was beautiful!! And the food was excellent!!!

Beautiful country setting! Our wedding was just perfect. They created the natural serene ambiance we desired. Everyone raved about the food and the service was 5 stars all the way!
GUEST

The location and setting are amazing for their relatively inexpensive package deal (there are several options). We had the wedding right in front, near the stream, and it was wonderful. We were able to have a mostly vegetarian meal, with a vegan option, without it being a huge deal. The food was pretty good, but not in my top ten or anything. The group tasting event was a little crazy, but we're glad it didn't let it change our minds or anything like that. The bathrooms need a little cosmetic work, but are fine, not too bad. We had a really fun, casual-yet-elegant wedding, and everything went well. Plus, the contact person Kate Harron is so great, a joy to work with.

It was just what we wanted! Cute, quaint, but just fancy enough for a wedding.
One of the most beautiful places to be married! Charming with a beautiful setting, fabulous food and a wonderful manager in Kate. Great to not just be married but to also have a delicious dinner too!

I have been to Valley Green Inn for two fabulous weddings! First my friend got married here back in 2000, and it was so lovely
and magical- that I recommended that my Brother get married here as well. Needless to say that with the outstanding service that Kate Harron provided, they were both more than pleased with their wedding day! Thanks Kate! :)
