Our Cake was amazing for the price we paid. Philip is really flexible with your requests and tries to make the cake to your needs. Upon arrival however the cake was slightly damaged, but we simply flipped that side to were the guest couldn't see. Taste wise our guests really enjoyed the cake!

There's two Van's Bakery in Westminster. This review is for the one on Brookhurst.
After visiting half a dozen bakeries, we chose Van's Bakery for our wedding cake. This was the last vendor we booked because cake wasn't one of our priorities. So, we chose Van's because it was relatively inexpensive and the lady helping us was very courteous, thorough, and friendly.
In the bakery, there was a display wedding cake we liked. We asked for the exact cake except we would bring in different flowers that went with our theme color. A plus about Van's was they placed the flowers on for you free of charge. Just buy it and bring it in.
When the night of the reception came, when we walked in, we were a bit disappointed with the cake. The flowers was not placed as we asked for. This was puzzling since there was an actual display cake in their store we told them to copy. The problem was that they put flowers on every tier instead of only the two tiers that that had the spacers. It made the cake look busier than what we wanted. In addition, on the tiers that had the spacers, the flowers was sparsely applied, which meant that you could see the spacers. Now this may sound silly and nit-picky, but simply put, we asked for something specific and it was not delivered.

Van's Bakery is your typical sponge cake bakery but I love that I can bring in a photo and they duplicate it. Their cakes are decent and if you want to try something different they have red velvet cake now that is pretty good. It's not great but will do! For the price you can't go wrong. I brought in a photo and they did it exactly the way I wanted fro the fraction of the cost at the original baker I was going to go to.

There are actually a few Van's Bakery to go to - and in OC, this is the best one! We visited each one (individually owned) and found this particular store to provide the best service - Free tasting, friendly baker (David), and affordable pricing. We went to others and it just wasn't the same. Save your time, and just go to this one!
The cake they made us was beautiful! Loved it! (It was rather simple, though - 4 layer cake with white frosting and brown ribbon we provided). And it also tasted good (mocha and strawberry filling - alternating layers)! We had compliments on the cake and some even wanted more!
The only thing they couldn't do was the sugar flower decorations we wanted. We ended up calling our florist to provide and decorate the flowers for us.
David was a pleasure to work with - he was so sweet and easy! The kind of guy you just want to hug - so happy!
We usually go to the Van's in San Gabriel, but since our wedding was in OC, we had to find an OC Van's. Coincidentally, the Van's in San Gabriel is owned by David's sister - no wonder! =D

We wanted a minimalist but tasty cake and we are so glad we went with Van's. We got our four-tiered cake (yellow cake with cream and strawberries) plus delivery to our venue in Dana Point for a veritable steal. It looked beautiful with the flowers we added and it tasted great. Highly recommend for brides on a budget, though you may need to bring a friend who speaks Vietnamese if you don't.

Growing up, I always used to get cakes from Van's bakery for my bday cakes and other special occasions. I was determined to get a more Americanized cake with fondant for my wedding cake. However, after checking out other cakes that cost hundreds to thousands of dollars, we ended up going back to Van's bakery. However, instead of choosing the mocha or other flavored cake- we chose their regular yellow cake with strawberry filling and it was light, fluffy and our guests enjoyed it b/c it wasn't too sweet. It was $200 for a 3 tiered cake. I would suggest buying your own flowers to add to it and we had one of our friends pick it up so we didn't have to deal with the delivery fee. The only thing I would recommend is to remember to take back the cake plates and legs so you don't lose the $50 deposit! Good luck!

What a great price for a 5 tier cake that fed 300 guests. It did not disappoint. Tasted great too!We received hundreds of compliments on the taste. The cake was moist and the cream was not too sweet. This bakery is a small mom and pop type shop. Those are the best sometimes don't you agree? You don't have to spend thousands for quality cakes. Check Good luck =)I love finding great deals like this. Especially in this economy...rofl. Honestly, I would totally refer. Cheers.

They provided amazing service at an amazing price! They were well below any other bakery we had visited. The cost with delivery and set up and rental of their silver stand was only $250 for a cake that fed $150 people. They used fresh cut up strawberries in our cake and we got many comments about how good they thought our cake was! I have recommended them to 2 friends who already ordered their cake from them since they were so impressed with ours. They had it at the venue ahead of schedule and coordinated with the venue to set it up. It was perfect, more beautiful that I imagined. Very happy with this vendor.

They make such yummy cakes, have many different flavors, and delivery to most of OC (central OC, not much to the border of the county). They are flexible with the cake flavors. You can change the color or flavor of the cake right up to a week before the wedding or date the cake is needed. They have other cakes and pastries there also.
