The Victorian at Hemphill Mansion
Great price. Beautful and intimate setting. Owner's Wife Dori is super sweet!!! Inclusive package means less stress! Loved most the vendors included in the package (all except the DJ). Food was amazing (lasagna). We could provide the alcohol without a corkage fee. The staff's clean up process was done with ease and they made sure that we got home with the little things that could have easily been left behind.
Bob is difficult to get ahold of. They seemed to be a bit unorganized all they way up to the wedding day. There were some false promises in our original meeting, in regards to changes being made to the house and the grounds. There was absolutely NO direction given to arriving guests...I'd suggest that you have someone assigned to this job because the Victorian staff is just too busy to do it. Dj wasn't very good-long awkward pauses between each song while dancing. You can only fit 64 people MAX into the main reception area. If you have more people they will set up tables in the other room that is connected by two double doors (ok, but they are definitely seperated). They cleared the food and glasses before people done with them.
Overall....the victorian is very nice, simple, and a great value. I'd say go for it as long as you are prepared for some of the cons I listed!
We were married in a beautiful ceremony in a charming old house surrounded by a small gathering of our closest loved ones.
No Decorations Needed! The ambiance and charm of the Victorian was already present. As were the gracious and well prepared hosts.
The Victorian Mansion is aesthetically beautiful and is accented with period appropriate decor
I did not want to plan a wedding. I was so happy to have found a place that would do everything for us.
Their price includes Catering, servers, set up and clean up, DJ, bartender (including all of the mixers and non alchoholic drinks) officiant (Bob married us). They also had the option of using some of their decorations that they already had like centerpieces, wedding card drop, cake cutter and easel. We used our own centerpieces, they were beautiful candelabras which they bought from us after the event, along with our table numbers and four beautiful cake plates. So now that's all there for other brides to enjoy. I was very thankful for these little extras!
We were married in front of the fireplace.
The ceremony was very nice, Bob was great and professional, he was very good at going with the flow when my husband was making everyone laugh during our vows.
The Food was AMAZING!! We received a lot of complements from our guests on the ceremony and the food. My guests were freaking out about the delicious home made bread. There was even a sit down service instead of a buffet, rare and enjoyable.
Every one had an amazing time especially one of our friends who'd already had too much to drink and was trying to order 5 beers at once. Our friend can be volatile but I watched as Bob diffused the situation and even made our friend laugh. I asked Bob if there was a problem if I needed to do anything and he laughed and said "Not at all just have fun" It was great.
Bob and Dori handled it all. Not I, nor none of my guests or family members was approached for issues or uncertainties during the event.
Someone in our party had ventured into an area that was off limits and it upset Bob. The area was marked "NO TRESSPASSING" very clearly, in English. Dori sweetly told (i was there) the person why the rules were in place. It was handled well. She was very professional. Unfortunately there have been times in the past where people were abusing the grounds and breaking the rules.
Keep in mind that you are renting this venue, you do not buy it. This isn't a kegger, it's your wedding so sneaking off to off limits places and bringing your own booze is frowned upon. I've read some bad reviews about the Victorian and I can see that some reviews are heated and injected with emotion and embellished perceptions and at times unrealistic expectations.
The DJ was a very nice gentleman. He was on top of the cues and made the cake cutting to the first dance to the father daughter dance...etc.. move very smoothly. The only thing I noticed was that songs from the do not play list got played. It wasn't inappropriate or anything, but I said something to him and he was very nice and apologized that he didn't have that list. He offered to stop playing it, but I looked at the dance floor and people were loving it. So very very minor, really. People were having a good time.
We are a very easygoing couple who wanted an easygoing, classy, wedding with personality, character and intimacy. We got it all. We didn't expect perfection but I feel like we got really close.
I would highly recommend the Victorian Mansion for your event.
owner was hard to get ahold of at times but the experience was well worth it. the staff did a wanderful job and it was beautifull.
The wedding was georgous but if you are into details this might not be the place for you. We had a difficult time getting in contact with Bob towards the end when it really mattered. Every time we asked a question he said it would be taken care of but in the end it wasn't. Our vegetarians were not served special meals only more rice which is not what is promised. Bob stated he would even do kids meals (his idea not ours) and we gave him a count of both items and nothing was done for either. We went through rehersal for an indoor wedding and were told that it could be outdoors if we told him we wanted that way. Imagine my surprise when I showed up on our chilly wedding day and the ceremony was outside. My husband and I were never asked if we wanted it outdoors that day and were told that our original desire was to have an outdoor wedding so Bob set it up. All and all it was a great day but things like this happened behind the scenes all day.
the victorian is a beautiful venue to have a wedding, i knew once i saw it i wanted to get married there, it is very affordable and the food is great. the only thing i would recommend is making sure you know what you want, anything left unsaid doesnt happen!
We chose this venue because it felt like nothing we had ever seen before. The mansion had the personality and charm that was lacking in so many of the other venues we looked at. At the end of the planing stage, a lot of questions were left unanswered. This lead to confusion on wedding day. Overall, the day went well and I was happy with out choice to have our wedding at The Victorian.
This was the best venue for our budget. The staff was wonderful!! They made sure the details were covered and that the big day ran smoothly. The owner, Bob, also officiated our ceremony. It was short, but he did what we wanted and we were very pleased. Hats off to the chefs. The food was FANTASTIC! People still comment on how good it was even 3 months later. I would definitely recommend The Victorian to other couples. It was beautiful, efficient, and affordable.
I loved the victorian! Upon first sight I knew this was the place where I wanted to have my wedding. The food was great! The people were great! I was very pleased with everything!!
