Washington Diamond made my search for an engagement ring a painless and straight-forward process. I came into their shop knowing very little about what kind of ring I wanted to get my soon-to-be fiancee, but Tom made me feel at ease immediately. He was great at answering all of the questions I had in very clearly and with great knowledge. I never felt like I was being "sold" a ring - Tom helped me distill my fiancee's likes and personality to find the perfect setting.

After purchasing the setting, the great customer service continued. I received frequent emails and phone calls to let me know when the setting was ready for my diamond. When visiting the shop to get my diamond appraised and to pick up the final engagement ring, I was warmly welcomed and never rushed out.

My fiancee absolutely loved the ring and I have Tom and everyone at Washington Diamond to thank. We're going back to look at wedding bands and I have no doubts that I will have the same great experience I had when shopping for an engagement ring.

Tom from Washington Diamond was the consumate professional. After scheduling an appointment, he spent time with me to talk about my needs and expectations from a diamond store. I couldn't be happier with the service, value, and service that they provided. Whether it was resizing the ring, cleaning services, or picking out wedding bands, I was treated with the upmost respect and care. Tom Daube is a very professional worker. He is not your typical salesman. He is very down to earth, personable, and patient guy. He is very easy to work with and very responsive. We would definitely recommend him when shopping for rings / jewelry.

What a beautiful selection of jewelry! I was very nervous going into Washington Diamond as I had been told by other jewelry stores that my marquise diamond solitaire engagement ring was just too awkward to work with and that I'd have to get a new band to find a ring that would fit flush.

Walter Via at Washington Diamond put me right at ease when we sat down. No engagement ring was "impossible" to work with. He showed me many bands that worked with my ring and I couldn't be happier with what I chose! My husband, not used to wearing rings, found a comfortable and classy ring that he's very happy with. Walter's knowledge about diamonds, and jewelry in general was very impressive. I knew we were in great hands.

I can't say enough good things about Washington Diamond. My husband found them while he was researching my engagement ring through a "certified diamond website" that I can't recall its name. He said he had an amazing experience with them through his engagment ring buying stage.

We went back to buy our bands and I knew immediately why he liked them so much. You need to have an appointment, be buzzed into the building, are offered a beverage, and then are sat down with a consultant. We did all our work with Walter. He was great! He worked wonderings with our pricing, resized my ring in one day (made an extra effort since we were driving in from 3 hours away).

We live in Newport News so it was a trip to go - but definitely a well worth it trip. I love my rings as does my husband!

I bought a diamond for an engagement ring at Washington Diamond. It was a great experience all around - Tom Daube was tremendously knowledgeable and helpful. My only regret is not finding them sooner - wish I would have bought the entire ring their - rather than just the center stone.

The group at Washington Diamond is excellent- very helpful, accommodating and really worked hard to find us the perfect wedding bands. My engagement ring also came from the store and it is perfect! I would highly recommend purchasing any jewelry through the store.

We worked with Walter from Washington Diamond for the engagement ring as well as the wedding bands. He was one of the most straightforward jewelers we talked to when looking for engagement rings and was very receptive and worked with us on designing the rings for my wife based on what she liked; as well, the prices were very reasonable.

Not only is Washington diamond great value for cost, but they are knowledgeable and so professional. Out of all of the jewelers we went to (and we even met ronnie mervis) the guys at WD put us the most at ease. They didn't try to push us on anything we didn't need or want. They listened to us and kept us in budget. We couldn't be happier with our rings.

I searched the diamond district in NY and all over the DC area for almost 3 months looking for the perfect diamond. The first time I met Tom he told me when I find the right diamond I will know it, just like I did with my husband. My husband purchased my first diamond and although it was nice when it came to my upgrade, I took it upon myself to find something REALLY special. When I met Tom, I immediately felt at ease there was not an ounce of pressure. I did not find my diamond the first visit but Tom told me about a diamond he was expecting. A couple days later I went to NY for the 3rd time of searching and thought that I had found my diamond. I was so tierd of looking. I even called my husband and told him to wire the payment the next day. While on my train ride home Tom called and said the stone was it. And BOY was he RIGHT! As soon as I saw it I KNEW it was what I had been searching for. There was NO seconding guessing and NO buyers remorse with this purchase. A year later I went back to have the stone set in the most beautiful setting. Everyday I look at my ring and feel the greatest satisfaction. I was able to get a much nicer stone than anywhere else for much less. Several stores in NY diamond district and here in the DC area told me I got a great deal they could not come anywhere close. I will never shop for diamond jewelry anywhere else.

I felt that Washington Diamond had the best setting selection for the price. Craig provided additional education on diamond color (he showed us how to see the yellow in a diamond on white paper), clarity & cut (sparkle), and diamond location. We weren't sure if we would purchase the ring here after our visit. Craig kept in touch with us via email to ensure that all our questions were asked. My finance later surprised me with the ring over New Years Eve last year. I was expecting it later this year. He ordered it in October and the ring was ready in 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, Craig is no longer working there, but I would still trust any other salesperson at Washington Diamond and highly recommend this place for wedding/engagement rings.

Washington Diamond offers unsurpassed value and expertise. My wife and I went to many stores but Washington Diamond was the only one that solved our problem. She wanted a wedding band that fit snugly against her engagement ring. All the other stores said she had to get either an unsightly curved band or an equally unsightly dual band. Tom at Washington Diamond was the only one who suggested a slight modification that both improved the engagement ring and allowed it to sit snugly next to the preferred wedding band. They saved us 40% to boot.

My husband had a great experience at Washington Diamond when he went to pick out and purchase my engagement ring. When it was time to pick out our wedding rings, we decided to go back to Washington Diamond and I'm so glad we did. We are very happy with our wedding rings! The gentleman we worked with was patient and knowledgeable. They have a wide variety of rings from which to choose and because you have to have an appointment to go there, you have undivided attention from a jewelry expert. We never felt pushed into buying rings that weren't right for us either. For example, though I tried on wedding bands with diamonds in them, I knew I wanted a ring that was similar to my mother's. I wanted a solid, platinum, delicate band. I would think that many sales people would want to push the idea of adding diamonds to it, but the gentleman who was helping us never did that. Instead, he helped me find a band that coordinates beautifully with my engagement ring and is exactly what I wanted. My husband's band looks like it was meant to be on his hand. We also got our rings inscribed on the inside and they did that very quickly and beautifully. We are very happy with Washington Diamond and absolutely recommend them.

My husband (then-fiance) and I went to several places to look for wedding bands and finally felt comfortable and satisfied at Washington Diamond. We worked with Tom and he helped us find what we were looking for and patiently kept track of which designs I liked and didn't like. He's very polite and not pushy. You are getting the truth. Tom definitely wants every person who walks into his store to become a customer, but he honestly understands when, for whatever reason, someone doesn't end up purchasing from him. We got my engagement ring and our wedding rings from Tom, and absolutely love everything we purchased.

I got great service from Tom at Washington Diamond. He offers his honest professional opinion. My husband did not get my engagement there, but I went there to get my engagement reset to match my wedding band. It was the choice I have ever made. On December 2011, I went there to get an anniversary band and I am very happy with my selection. You will not be disappointed when their selections. The price is fair. If you want a quality piece, you will need to pay the price. But I think their price is pretty fair.

We bought our wedding rings from Washington Diamond. We found Tom and his staff to be very knowledgeable, friendly, and competitive with regard to price. Would recommend them without reservation.

If only I knew that the wonderful professional work by this, one of our earliest "wedding vendors", was to be a sign of just how great things were to come. We met with Craig Principe on the recommendation of an on-line "friend", and were very impressed.

My now-husband is not a fan of salespeople, and even less so when he is not knowledgeable about the topic, but Craig was very good at spending time explaining the differences in diamonds, the various ratings and scales and sizes and cuts. At no time did we feel pressed to make a purchase. Since I had already spend many hours with a dear friend scouting rings at the nearby major shopping district, I knew that their prices for the stones, and the skill in their setting designs, were very good for the price.

We selected one of their in-house designs for my engagement ring, and I get compliments on it all the time. Random sales clerks ar the grocery store, people in meetings, everywhere. For my wedding band, they made a totally custom design based on my stated desires. It was quite a leap of faith to pay for a ring that I would not be able to see until it was totally finished. They have an option to have a computer-generated model and/or a wax model made for you before the ring is made, but I did not take that option - I guess I trusted their skill and design work enough. I was not disappointed. My wedding band is exactly what I wanted and looks incredible with my engagement ring. It is enough of a piece to be worn alone, but does not distract away from my e-ring at all when worn together. That's a hard combination to come up with.

My husband selected a simple, plain platinum band, which we also purchased from Washington Diamond. Yes, we could have gone elsewhere for it, as it was not a very unique piece, but the customer service that you get from such professionals is worth shopping there for all of our wedding jewelry. And with them, we know exactly what we are getting. My engagement ring appraised for more than we purchased it (independant appraiser), and I will not be surprised when the wedding band does as well. The appraiser had nothing but high praise for the skill and detail of the engagement ring when it was done.

Whenever I have had a concern or needed a sizing issue adjusted, they have been right there. I will now be taking my family pieces (some more than 100 years old) to Washington Diamond for any repair or modifications and inspections. I trust them totally.

Our experience with Washington Diamond was unparalleled!

My husband and I had spent months looking for new wedding and engagement rings in order to reset my diamond. We were initially attracted to Washington Diamond because of their website. I have never before seen such an honest, informative, comprehensive website for wedding and engagement rings in my life! To me, that is a HUGE DEAL because I have been in the fine jewelery business for years. I am no novice when it comes to fine and precious jewelery, and I know when things are not as advertized.

After doing some research, we made an appointment. One of the qualities of Washington Diamond, which I really like, is that their showroom is open by appointment only. This is great for two reasons: 1) When you walk into the store, you know you are the most important person there. 2) It creates a low-key, very comfortable atmosphere in which to shop for, compare, and create very fine jewelry.

Our appointment was with Tom Daube. I did not initially reveal that I had knowledge of or experience in Fine Jewelry because I wanted to see how I would be treated if I were an average customer. (Sometimes, buying jewelry can be a lot like buying cars.) I can't say enough wonderful things about Tom! He was friendly, honest, creative, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. We were never rushed and we were never pressured to do anything.

We were there for an hour and a half, but by the time we left we had chosen the most beautiful, perfect wedding set! Tom helped us to create the personal touches that would make it uniquely ours. The rings would take about three weeks to make.

My rings arrived on time and were STUNNING! During those three weeks, Tom, Denelle, and others at Washington Diamond bent over backwards to correspond regularly with us, answering questions and providing frequent updates...and they didn't forget about us once I received my rings, either. Even now, they remind me to bring in my rings to be cleaned and checked.

In short: If you are shopping for engagement rings, wedding bands, or bridal sets GO TO WASHINGTON DIAMONDS! You will not be disappointed.

Wow. I'm still amazed at the fabulous service and professionalism we received. I still look at my hand and say "Wow" when I look at my rings. The personal contact and fast replies to emails have been extremely helpful, especially since I now live in NC. The quality for the dollar is amazing, and I frequently check out their site for additional good deals. This isn't just a great diamond store, but a great jewelry store, a great custom jewelry maker, and really, good metal working artists who are helping to make the most important rings you'll ever wear. I have no regrets at all that we chose this company.

Their web site has a lot of information on it, but that only helps to figure out what you like and dislike, although I still ocassionally browse their site just for fun. When you sit down and look at loose stones is when you get your real education. Also, we were the type of high maintenance folks who said, "we want a 3 stone design, but with pears on the sides...and we saw a setting at a different company's site that we like...what do you have like that?" They were able to make us exactly what we had in mind, with a much higher quality stone that we thought we could afford.

I have a number of great experiences with Washington Diamond to share. My first was being able to recommend them to my boyfriend who was hinting that he wanted to ring shop. I heard from three male colleagues how pleased they were with the Washington Diamond engagement rings that they'd bought within weeks of one another. My boyfriend first checked out their website and then made an appointment that went very well. When he proposed, my boyfriend gave me a beautiful engagement ring. The quality was outstanding and I was so excited to return to Washington Diamond to choose a wedding band that would match my stunning engagement ring. My fiance and I made an appoint and met with Walter Via, who treated us like we were favorite his customers. He was patient, reviewed options and drew pictures that looked like real diamonds. He made the pictures come to life with actual diamonds and when it was time, called us for a follow-up appointment to review and approve the actual diamonds that we would use in our custom-made wedding band. The diamond band was stunning! It was so distractingly beautiful that the person who married us told us after the ceremony that when she saw my husband put the wedding band on my hand, she almost forgot her place in pronouncing us married. I don't blame her! Then she laughed with us about her needing to tell her husband to step-up his game. For our five-year anniversary, we decided to keep our engagement ring's beautiful center diamond and flank it with stones that would match our asscher-cut diamond eternity wedding band. Again, we were welcomed and given excellent customer service by all of Washington Diamond staff, and we noticed other customers who were also being served well. We met with worked with Tom Daube who was so generous to us with his time, our options and pricing. Now, my wedding set is breathtaking and I am delighted to share this news with Yelp readers. I found Washington Diamond just by searching online, and I'm so happy I did! We had previously tried some other very well-known places in DC, but hadn't found the right combination of attentive, trustworthy service and rings that we truly liked. We worked with Tom, who was wonderful! He was patient, helpful, not pushy at all, and we actually had fun ring shopping! He was helpful and responsive even after the sale. The team at Washington Diamond, especially Tom, is great. My fiance and I decided to shop together for my engagement ring, and we had looked at a few stores before coming to Washington Diamond. The difference is that they are jewelers, not a retail chain store pushing to make a quota. Their prices are competitively priced, and they worked with us to find a setting that really met what I was looking for. They even custom designed my band, which was such a thrill, after other stores were pushing me to just select whatever they had in stock. We went back to them for our wedding bands, and it was again an enjoyable experience. They did not pressure us, didn't try to upsell, and we ended up with what was perfect for us. Just 1/2 star off on flexibility because it is by appointment only and it is not always easy to get the time you want, as they are so busy and their schedule fills up.

Friends recommended them and they were totally right- they had amazing rings and when we went back to have my band designed around my engagement ring Tom was flexible and helpful and very thoughtful about the process. Washington Diamond was an excellent jeweler for our wedding jewelry. I got my wife's engagement ring there, as well as our wedding bands. The customer service was excellent, and the sales team very comfortably helped walk us through our first purchase of a diamond ring. The value for our money was very good.

We got my engagement ring and wedding band at Washington Diamond and loved the quality and price. The service was great and Walter was very responsive to our needs. Our only issue was with the engraving. They were going to engrave the wrong date, but I double checked the receipt and corrected them, and then the actual engraving was spelled wrong. It wasn't a foreign language or anything strange, so this was upsetting. But they quickly made it right and refunded us the engraving cost, so we were happy in the end, it was just a little stressful.

I'm so glad my husband went here for my engagement ring instead of a generic retail shop. When we went back to get our wedding bands, I felt so special :) with the individual attention they gave us. I love going back to get my rings cleaned... they remember me!

We had a custom engagement ring done and the process was almost seamless. Everyone was very friendly and easy to work with. A problem arose JUST DAYS before I was going to propose and the issue was resolved by the OWNER himself!! On top of that, they still made our deadline. The quality of their workmanship is top notch; the ring is unreal. I would recommend them to anyone shopping for engagement rings, especially if a custom setting is desired. This shop is not only for the rich and ridiculous, but they cater to the working class customer as well.
I URGE YOU, to at least stop by and check out the shop. I doubt you'll find a better shop than Washington Diamond in metro DC.

My fiance and I looked at several jewelry stores in the area (e.g., Tiffany's, Cartier, Charles Alexander, etc) and in NYC (e.g., Michael C. Fina, Tacori, etc), and felt that Washington Diamond was by far, the most personable, straight forward/honest servicer around. The quality of their diamonds were excellent, Walter Via went the extra mile in obtaining the quality diamond for the value that we wanted. The designs they had were very classy, sophisticated, delicate and exactly what I wanted. I had looked at so many ring styles including the famed Tacori ones, and didn't like them as much as the style my fiance got me from Washington Diamond. We plan to buy our wedding bands from them as well! Overall, great service and great value!

Before we bought our wedding bands here, we would have given the store 5 stars; my husband had such a good experience buying my engagement ring, we knew we'd be back for our wedding bands. And for the most part, the experience was positive. However, when we first went to pick up our wedding bands, my husband's had arrived in the wrong style and mine had arrived in the wrong size. We returned them, and mine arrived in the wrong size again! So even though we ordered our rings about 4 months before the wedding, we just barely had my ring in time for the ceremony. I think this was probably an unusual case, but it may be worth ordering the rings with plenty of time to spare...

Washington Diamond is so wonderful to work with. They will make and have such a large array of jewelry. The hours are not so great but the staff is always welcoming and the quality of jewelry is incredible.!!!

I love Washington Diamond. I think it may be a little more expensive than some of the online stuff you can find, but the little extra is totally worth it. Their customer service is excellent - they work with you until you are 100% satisfied. On such a large purchase I think it makes sense to pay a tiny bit extra if you can guarantee you are going to be satisfied!

Washington Diamond had the best value in the area for terrific jewelery. I LOVE my ring, they clean it for free, and occasionally send us sale and discount mailings to come in to purchase more. The jewelers are knowledgeable, but not pushy or overbearing.

We bought a 5-year anniversary band for me in 2005 and then a 10-year anniversary band this summer. We had it and my husband's original wedding band (not purchased at Washington Diamond) engraved with a matching phrase.

Choosing the ring and engraving was so easy and took less than 30 minutes (they didn't rush us; we just knew what we wanted and they led us right to it).

The only hiccup in the whole process was that my band somehow was sized a full size too large.

They immediately sized the ring down at no charge and agreed to re-work the engraving if it was affected by the re-sizing also at no charge. They were very professional and accommodating about the change.

The whole process from choosing rings to getting the final engraved and correctly sized band took 2 weeks. We love working with Washington Diamond, and have been faithful customers for over 5 years now. We are already eagerly planning our next purchase.

I recommend Tom Daube and Washington Diamond for your diamond purchases.

Easily the best place to go for rings, they have a great and very beautiful collection, and are willing to tailor each piece to your needs. They work fast and are also rather reasonable, making them by far the place to go for beautiful yet reasonably priced rings.

we definitely enjoyed working them. husband felt very comfortable with the service he received when buying my ring and we went back for our bands. i tend to be awful at making decisions and he was very patient with me. unfortch we moved away from the area, or else we would certainly return for my stud earrings :-)

We bought my eternity, platinum wedding band here and we love it. It makes my engagement ring look brighter, which we also bought from Washington Diamonds. I got a discount because someone with small ring size had ordered it but cancelled at the last minute and luckily it fit me. It was a win/win situation. Watler, our service representative was very knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with. The receptionist is also friendly and I also love getting my ring cleaned here! Makes my ring look 100x shinier and you can get it cleaned any time. I would definitely recommend this place anyone.

My overall experience with Washington Diamond was a positive one and one that would have gotten a 5.0 rating were it not for a single experience with a sales person (who I do know is no longer working at the store). After finding the perfect wedding band to go with my engagement ring - which has a unique design that I was concerned I would not be able to match - and a band for my husband, I was told that in order to get our rings in time for the wedding (3 or so weeks away), I'd have to order it THE NEXT DAY. While I was prepared to order the rings that quickly, I was really unpleasantly surprised to call back the next day to place the order and found out from the sales person's colleague that there was absolutely no problem with delivery time and that I could, in fact, wait another week or more and still have confidence that the ring would arrive on time.

On all other fronts, I had a good experience with Washington Diamond and I certainly don't hold a single salesperson's potentially unethical, high-pressure sales tactics against the entire store. All said, I would do business with them again and would recommend them to others with the preface that they be wary of any "do it now or never" messages.

Washington Diamond provided a more intimate environment than some of the other bigger, chain and online jewelry stores. But don't expect to find something especially unique unless you work with them to design a "customized" ring. All in all though, a nice, small, professional outfit that is low pressure and helpful.

Washington Diamond is old-fashioned (they don't usually open accounts in women's names), but they are loyal to their customers and win their repeat business in return. I bought a $40 ring cleaner from them a year ago and a few months later, I received a free $100 gift certificate just for being a "loyal customer." After I picked out a pair of free pearl earrings, I began to consider them for my wedding band as well. I found a better selection there then any of the retailers we looked at in the malls, and I was able to personalize my ring with hand engraving on the inside of the band. The store sent me an appraisal a short while later without any prompting, and it was very helpful to have for insurance. I look forward to doing business with them again, and I hope to get another free coupon one day, as well.

I get so many compliments on my ring, so I have to thank Washington Diamond for that! My husband got his wedding band there, and I think it was a bit pricey, but overall, it was a very nice experience shopping there and the quality speaks for itself- I get stopped everyday by people commenting on my ring.

Our only complaint was they seemed to have a problem sizing our rings. Of the three rings we purchased at Washington Diamond, they only got one correct. We would recommend using this vendor, just double-check sizing!
