John was an amazing officiant. He included everything we wanted in our ceremony and made it not only traditional, but fun, for our guests. He showed up early and worked with our entire wedding party, including parents and grandparents, to make sure everyone knew exactly what to do during the ceremony. All this planning really paid off and our ceremony was fluid and exciting. We would highly recommend John for anyone looking for a compassionate, professional and fun officiant for their wedding.

My husband and I are from Australia, and we decided to get married in The Ladies Pavillion in Central Park, New York City. I was looking for an Officiant and found John Rivera. Instantly I knew he was the one to perform our ceremony, I phoned him and booked the day. We met John on our wedding day, I asked him to perform our ceremony with what he thought, and we had natural reactions of his kind words and humour. I would recommend John's services, he has a lovely nature and will tailor make a ceremony for you. He sent me lovely email to see if we arrived safely back to Australia, and if we ever return to New York he also offered to be a tour guide, Brooklyn style. Very sweet. All the happiness to future brides and grooms.

There is something about John that is very calming. He made sure that he was available for any questions from the day we met him. Although he was a little late the day of the wedding, John delivered a truly beautiful story about us. He made our ceremony sweet, short (about 25 minutes), funny (had our guests laughing), and personal. We couldn't have asked for anything more! What we really liked about John was that he was "real" and did not give us that "sterile" wedding feeling that other officiants did. Not he mention, his rates are very affordable and won't break your break. Highly recommended!

John conducted our ceremony in the midst of the hurricane sandy which we really appreciate and also he helped us to personalize our wedding to make it memorable. Although the bride (her fault, haha!) was well over an hour late for the wedding they stayed and were very very considerate and helpful making a joke of the lateness to keep the crowd happy and cheerful which was brilliant. John recommended the "Ladies Pavilion" in NYC central park for our ceremony and it was the most beautiful location to have our wedding.

My fiancé and I signed a contract with this vendor in early 2012, three weeks before my wedding I contacted him to set up a time to further discuss how the ceremony would be conducted and to read the passages that would be spoken. After a phone conversation that ended in us scheduling a time to meet, I am extremely disappointed to say that this vendor wrote me an email a few hours later backing out. His reasoning was that he didn’t want us to read the passages before the ceremony. I picked this vendor because his services were inexpensive and flexible. Flexible in our mind meant reading the passages beforehand to see if they were a good representation of us as a couple. I guess you pay for what you get because he continued to write unprofessional emails (e.g. saying he saved my wedding from being predictable and hum drum).

I am still confused as to why he says that he’s flexible to meet our needs, but then backed out because I asked him if I could read the passages that would be read at our ceremony. Even in the most conservative religions, passages can be seen beforehand. I just don't get it. Also, after several reminders it wasn't until I told him I will be exploring court options that I received my deposit back. It took a month to receive the deposit and we live in the same town! Again, you get what you pay for. I am in no way saying not to use his services, I am writing this review to inform you of my personal experience. It was very upsetting, costly and stressful to have an officiant back out three weeks before the wedding. That added stress was not worth the affordable price!

John was such an amazing addition to the most special day of our lives. He made our guests laugh and cry and he really touched our hearts. What a blessing to send us off into our lives together we could not have been happier!!!!

My ceremony was amazing and I owe it all to John. From our initial meeting, my husband and I felt welcomed by John and his wife. Our first meeting took place at his home and John offered to pick us up & dropped us off at the train station because we didn't have a car. His wife was very friendly and they made us feel at home.

During our meeting John asked us a bunch of questions about how we meet and what we love about each other. Every ceremony performed by John is personal and made just for the couple. That is the main reason we decided to go with him. John incorporated our own vows into the ceremony as well.

On September 1, 2012, John made our day extra special, everything was amazing. We are truly happy that we made the decision to go with John. He has a great personality and sense of humor. If you are looking for a minister that is down to earth and personal....John is your man!

I found John through Wedding Wire and based on all the reviews he was my top choice to be our Officiant. My husband and I met with John and were very happy with how he was so open to making the ceremony fit us as a couple. If you are searching for an officiant within the 5 boroughs of New York City, let me save you some time and effort! My husband and I are from North Carolina. However, his 7 year old daughter lives in Queens, and her birthday is August 1st. Since we were going up for her birthday, and the most important thing to us for our wedding was having our children present, we decided to take my 20 year old daughter with us, and have our wedding on the Brooklyn Bridge on August 5. We knew planning a wedding in NYC from NC would present some obstacles, like finding an officiant, photographer, etc. I e-mailed several officiants, some of who never replied, but the Wedding Minister of Brooklyn replied immediately. I was impressed right away!! We e-mailed a couple of times, then spoke on the phone. He actually took the time to find out exactly what we wanted for each aspect of our wedding, and went to our wedding website to read our story and get to know us. He even had ideas and suggestions for some things we were unsure about. He understood that having our children there was the single, most important thing, and having the wedding on the Brooklyn Bridge at night with the skyline lit up was second most important. When we got to NY, he met came to our hotel and met with us, and spent over an hour getting to know us and formulating the perfect wedding. He has an amazing personality and sense of humor, that it put everyone at ease, including me, the very anxious bride. He spoke of his own wife very often, and I could tell he loves her very much, and that in itself told me that our wedding was as important to him as it was to us. We already knew at that point, that there may be some bad weather to hinder actually doing it on the bridge, which is always a possibility with an any outdoor event. Needless to say, we did have a backup plan, which was the beautiful arched walkway through the Municipal Building, at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, at 1 Police Plaza. With the intricate, stone architecture, it was the perfect, second location. However, the minister put forth every effort, right up to the very last minute to have it on the bridge. He was already on the bridge before I even got there! Unfortunately, our worst fears were realized when a horrendous storm came up. Not just a little rain, a downpour with lightening, wind, you name it. He called me immediately, we were just about there, and said he would be set-up and waiting in the plan B location. I was on the verge of devastation when I arrived, and things were feeling very chaotic, as you can imagine. However, the minister, along with his wife shooting video, and his son doing the photography ( I will get to that in a minute), immediately put me back at ease with their positivity and professionalism. I quickly remembered the most important thing, both of our children were there, in addition to that, so was our parents, and my dad was giving me away, along with a few amazing friends. So instead of turning into Bridezilla, I took a moment to count my blessings. The ceremony, with a few minor hiccups, turned out very nice, mostly because the minister performed our ceremony like he had known us for years! A stranger wouldn't know any different! After the ceremony, he, his wife, and son walked us through getting some amazing photos, and even managed to still get some with the skyline. Now to the photography and video. I did many searches online to find someone, and they were all crazy expensive for what I was wanting. I wanted simple video of just the ceremony to show friends and family back home, and a handful of beautiful photos. This was not a huge ceremony, with only very few people in attendance, I didn't need something greatly elaborate. However, I still feel like I got that anyway! I e-mailed the minister to ask him if he knew of a photographer, being from the area, that didn't want an arm and leg. He replied back that his son is a photographer, and would be happy to shoot the wedding, photo and video. However, because of tightened security on the bridge when it came time, large professional video equipment wasn't allowed, so his wife shot the video with a hi-def handheld. At this point, I am awaiting photo and video, while they are doing their thing to them, but I already know I am going to be happy with them, just what from what I saw on the camera at the time. I honestly believe my wedding wouldn't have been nearly as nice with a different officiant! E-mail him before spending a lot of time looking elsewhere!

John did a amazing job and said such beautiful words it literally brought us all to tears. Our wedding was on a hot day in 14st Union Square but Mr. Rivera certainly took our minds off of it with his beautiful poem and He was worth every penny and then some! He put so much work into his kind words and really melted our hearts. Mr. Rivera added to our very special day and we will never forget the work he has done to make our wedding special and even more unique. Thanks so much John!!

He was my wedding officiant for my wedding on June 2, 2012 at Studio 450 in the city. I have to say that he was absolutely amazing!! He had a great sense of humor and he was very personable. We got married yesterday and while we are so busy we did not want to wait to write John's review. He was wonderful. We gave him a 5 on everything minus professionalism only because we did not feel like we or he was at work! He made us feel relaxed. He had a great loving personality. But he pleasantly surprised us again when we heard the the ceremony. He added lovely, not over the top poetry that even allowed us to focus on its beauty in the cold. We had a cold weather outdoor ceremony and John was right by our side asking if the bride wanted to wear his robe to keep warm.
