Reviews for Yummy Cupcakes - Burbank
I don't just like cupcakes, I adore them. So, I was excited when one of my brides decided to have these cupcakes instead of a wedding cake. Cupcakes usually retain their moistness and flavor that wedding cake doesn't. I can't say this was completely the case with the cupcakes she ordered from Yummy Cupcakes.
I only tried two of the flavors offered: chocolate and lemon. The chocolate was delicious, rich and moist. As a chocoholic, I was in heaven! The lemon, however, was dry, overly tart and the icing actually HURT MY TEETH. How does that happen?
The presentation of the cupcakes was interesting. I loved the cupcake tree and the top, large cupcake for the bride and groom to "cut." It was decorated in beautiful, sugar holly designs. The gingerbread cupcakes were also adorable, with their miniature gingerbread men sitting atop of each one. The lemon and chocolate cupcakes, however, were bordering on obscene (funny that I chose those two to sample!). The lemon looked like breasts, and I won't say what the chocolate cupcakes looked like...you can use your imagination.
Despite my feelings on the lemon cupcakes, I will go to this store and try some of their other flavors. Maybe I'll just have to tell people to stay away from the lemon...
We chose Yummy Cupcakes (Santa monica) to be our wedding cupcake baker after a long 5 months of trying out all cupcake bakeries in the area. We tried 6 different bakeries and Yummy won with better taste, presentation, prices and flavor choices. They were very accommodating and the rental fees for stands, etc. were the most reasonable out of the 6 others we tried. Everyone loved the cupcake idea and the fact that they were able to chose their favorite flavor. I go back to Yummy for all of my friends birthdays. It makes the best gift!
With this vendor, it was the classic question of whether the end product justifies the process. The cupcakes themselves were great, and we got rave compliments from many of the guests. On the other hand, getting them to the wedding was a problem. Every time we tried to call, we were referred to their event coordinator, who was rarely in the store. Regular employees couldn't answer basic questions and calls weren't returned for days at a time, if at all.
We ended up having to leave our entire order and delivery instructions on the store's voicemail, and had to rely on regular employee promises that the message would be checked and executed accordingly. When the cupcakes were delivered to the venue on the day of the wedding, they only dropped off two of the four flavors we ordered. And we still haven't received an invoice for the cupcakes, despite asking and being promised one three times.
Overall, there were a lot of problems coordinating with this vendor, but the end product (what we received of it, anyway) was raved about by the guests... which I guess is the most important thing.
The Good: Their cupcakes are very tastey and they have both basic flavors like chocolate and vanilla and more unusual flavors. They also have towers you can rent so you don't have to search one out yourself. And their prices are very resaonable.
The Bad: They seemed totally disorganized. I felt like I never talked to the same person twice and often when I called there was no one at the store who could answer my questions and when I asked when such a person would be in, I was always promised someone would call me back which rarely happened and when it did, it was never in a timely manner. When it came time to pay the balance, the person at the store could not tell me the balance and said someone would call me back (this was two days before the wedding) by 3p no one had called me so I called again and finally 15 minutes later got the answer.
On the day of my wedding when I was already a bit stressed I got two separate calls from the store. One was to ask for the address to the venue and what time they should arrive, which I had already given both pieces of information prior. And another call asking if I wanted to switch out towers. Granted neither of these questions were unreasonable but could have maybe been handled prior to the day of the wedding.
Also, the cupcakes were very very late arriving. My ceremony started at 4:30 and I told the store they should be at the venue between 2p and 4p. They just barely arrived by 4. And according to my husband and others the cupcake guy came in and basically dumped the stuff with out so much as a word of apology for being so late.
Before he arrived one of my bride's maids had called and the only reason that was given for the lateness was the person bringing the cupcakes was they were stuck in traffic. I know traffic is a reality in LA, but you would think a place that offers to deliever and advertises on their site as doing weddings would account for the possibility of traffic.
All in all I was under welmed with their professionalism. Which is sad because their cupcakes are very tastey and all the guests enjoyed them a lot.
