What are somethings I need to change my name on? I'm trying to make a list so I don't forget anything.
Also, if you know any of the procedures for changing my name with these things it would be a great help!
Personal bank (do we need to change our checks too? we already have a joint account)
Credit Card Company
Social Security Card (or does this happen automatically?)
Drivers License
Student Loans
Am I missing anything? Any additions and/or advice would really be appreciated! We're getting legally married either this month or next, so anything would be a great help!!
passport
Health Insurance, Car Insurance, Utilities, every single account you've ever had... it's a pain.
and SSN name changes is not automatic.
Your HR Dept at your job will have you re-fill in some papers to denote the change... b/c your paycheck will be issued in your new name
HR dept with work....new tax forms....car registration.....and, as i just learned the hard way, your Frequent Flyer number (mine is with AA, pain the the butt, now, of course, we need to book flights TONIGHT!)
saving this thread so i don't forget anything either! thanks ladies :)
401K/Retirement Plans, Voter's Registration, Mortgage, Life and Home insurance, gym, sams/costco memberships, will......
RRSP's, passport, Health card, auto/house insurance (bonus - your rates will probably go down once you get married!)...
..this is why I am not legally changing my name...lol!
And for my bank and all that fun stuff, do I just call them and tell them that my name changed?
no, most of these places will require proof....like a certified copy of your marriage license/certificate
I had to take a marriage certificate to the bank, the Social Security Office, The DMV, and some of my utilities needed copies.
lol, nothing is automatic ; )
this should be an article!!!
ughh.. what a pain! I think I will make the Mr. Cupcake's project. I didn't want to change my name because I knew it would be lots of work and didn't want to add more to my plate 2 months out from the wedding, but he really wants me to.
I guess I'll tell him if he wants it right away, he can do all the foot work ; )
