DIY Barefoot Sandals
Perfect for a Destination Wedding! (community article)
So i recently attempted to make DIY Barefoot sandals to customize them to my wedding colour and style, and decided to share the instructions. Once you have decided on a design, they only take about an hour to make.
Here are the supplies you'll need:
- Stretchy cord (mine was 0.8mm)
- Pliers
- Small scissors
- Small beads (as the base of your design) - approximatelly 150
- Larger beads (as accents for your design) - approximately 50
- Some pretty accent beads - 1 for each sandal
- Crimp beads
- Simple closure and chain
You are ready to begin.
Step 1: Tie a double knotted loop around your second toe. Make sure it is tight, but not so tight that it cuts off circulation! Also, one side should be slightly shorter than the other.
Step 2: Start beading away! The first bead: thread the string in opposite directions like so:
Step 3: Continue your desired pattern. Here is an example:
Step 4: Add your special beads, or other decorations. I have found a seashell bead that matched my colours perfectly!
A close up of the special seashel bead i found.
Step 5: Once you are done with beading both ends, you are ready to finish it off! Insert a crimp bead on the end, and run the string through the closure and then back through the cramp bead. For security, I also ran the string through the last bead again, just so that it doesn't go anywhere.
Step 6: Squeeze your crimp bead flat with the pliers. It will become flat, like so:
Repeat the same step on the other side, and voila, you have a barefoot sandal! Now do the other one, and you are done!
Here is what mine look like:
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
