DIY Hydrangea Bouquet

If you decide to take on your own wedding flowers, make it easy and choose foolproof blossoms. Hydrangeas are one of the easiest flowers to arrange and because of their large blossoms, it doesn't take too many to make a lush bouquet, so they are inexpensive as well.

A few things to remember:

-When picking or purchasing hydrangeas, only pick flowers with firm blossoms. 

-If you are picking them from a garden, pick them early in the morning or late at night, when they have the most moisture.

-As soon as you pick them or purchase them, place them in a bucket of lukewarm water.

-If at any time your flowers wilt, submerge the entire blossom in warm water for 15 minutes and it should perk up. If it doesn't, toss it.

-After soaking the flowers overnight, condition them by removing most of the leaves (leaving the ones right around the blossoms).

-Place them in a fresh bucket of clean water.

To Make the Bouquet:

-You will need clippers or scissors, 5-8 stems of hydrangea (depending on how large they are), string or raffia, 1.5 yards of ribbon.

-Make a small bouquet with 3 stems.

-Place larger blossoms and leaves around the edge.

-Keep adding to your bouquet, and turn it after you add each stem.

-As soon as you have a round shape, cut the stems to a desired length and tie with string.

-Add ribbon and tie in a French knot or a bow.

-Keep in water right up until the wedding.

-Hydrangeas don't like to be in bright sun or freezing cold, so try to keep them at about 70 degrees until the big day.
