DIY: Make Your Own Napkins
Want to match the napkins with your table theme? Then read on! (expert advice)
If you are looking to personalize your wedding tables, consider making your own napkins (or having a friend or family member pitch in and help!). It's one of our favorite inexpensive tricks for creating customized wedding tables. Homemade napkins can add punch to your color scheme and add a personal flair to rental linens.
It you don't want to make your own napkins, many rental companies will sew napkins for you, if you provide the fabric. We've found the cost is usually around $1 per napkin. The two standard sizes for napkins are 10" x 10" for a cocktail napkin and "17 x 17" for a larger dinner napkin. If you decide to make your own, here's our how to:
You will need:
Approx. 1 yard of fabric per 4 napkins (depending on which size you make)
A sewing machine
Scissors
Directions:
The easiest way to start is to trace a napkin you already have onto your fabric. Add about 1.25 inch to the edge and cut in a square. Fold and press 1/4 of an inch around the edge to hide the raw seam. Fold down another inch and press. Stitch around the edge, about 1/8 of an inch in. Press and fold the napkin!
Making napkins gives you more control over the look of your tables and adds a personal and unique touch. The best part is that you can keep the linens for your new home!
