DIY: Waxflower Bouquet

Consider this sweet and simple bouquet for your wedding day! (expert advice)

DIY: Waxflower Bouquet article photo

Consider a sweet and simple bouquet for your wedding day. It's inexpensive and easy to make one for yourself. For this sweet nosegay, we used waxflower. Waxflowers are readily available year-round at florists, flower markets, and grocery stores. They also last for a long time and don't wilt easily. We edited the stems and bunched them in mass for maximum impact.

You will need:

flower clippers

floral tape

ribbon

string

2 bunches of waxflower

1. Condition the stems by letting them sit in lukewarm water overnight, away from direct sunlight.

2. Strip all the leaves off of the stems up to the first 2 inches.

3. Clip off the buds. They are usually a darker pink color than the white blossoms and without them, the flowers have more impact.

4. Gather a few stems in your hand. Keep adding stems, turning the bouquet to the right each time you add them. This creates spiraled stems and a round look to the bouquet.

5. Adjust any stems that seem out of place.

6. Tie your bouquet together with a string.

7. Wrap floral tape around the top and center of the bouquet, leaving a few stems peeking out.

8. Wrap a ribbon around the stems, securing it with a pin.

9. Clip the stems to create a straight line at the bottom.

10. Store your bouquet in a vase until your big day. This bouquet should last around a week.

awe but they are so pretty nikolai. I'll do something like that for our vow renewal. (anyone else already planning their vow renewal? there are so many things I loved that wouldn't go with other things we have ie wax flowers a little to informal for our wedding grrrr)

Warning about waxflower- the stems are CRAZY thick and hard and you will practically have to hacksaw through them. I had to use pruners to cut through them.

It does make for an awesome bouquet though :-)
