DIY Wedding Challenge 2010: Baseball Placecard Holders
(community article)
These may not be up everyone's alley but they can definitely be changed up to fit any wedding theme! All the placecard/escort card holders i found online were ridiculously expensive so I decided I would do something cool on my own! I went to Joann and bought unfnished wooden balls. They are meant to be drawer pulls you can finish yourself and they have flat bottoms. I painted them all white with a sponge brush/applicator and waited overnight and gave them a second coat. Once that was dry I penciled in where the stitching would be on a baseball and painted over that with a VERY VERY thin brush in red paint. I then went back over that and painted the lil stitches in. It took some practice and I won't lie, it's time consuming but they look great! My dad then drilled holes in the top of all of them JUST smaller than the diameter of the wire for the holder. I went to Home Depot and bought a sturdy wire (pretty sure it's stainless steel) and used photo holders ive seen as my inspiration. I cut a length of wire and used a pair of needle nose pliers to twist the wire around in a swirl. The wire was then inserted in the top of the wooden ball, and VOILA! A placecard holder! :) The card with the person's name/table number just slips between the coils on the wire!! :) I think these ended up costing us about 50 cents a piece!! :) A far cry from the 3 and 4 dollars i was looking at spending online!! :) Happy DIY! :)
