DIY Wedding Challenge 2010: Postcard

(community article)

Save the Date Postcard

Once James and I got engaged we wanted to find a fun way to spread the word to our friends and family. While thinking of ideas, we decided to incorporate James' career and my quirky sense of humor. The result was a postcard that became an instant hit with our guests.

First we scouted parks for the perfect tree. We finally found one at a friend's house. Then we crafted a cutout and a handle to hold it up. We shot about a hundred pictures, and then the fun began.

After picking out my favorite of the pictures, I went to work in Photoshop to change the lighting, colors, and focus of the image. Then I carefully I added the calendar date to the cutout. I added our initials and went to work on the back portion on the postcard.

I created our own monogram in Illustrator and added the date and information in addition to a few lines and a placement box for the stamp.

After that, I sent the files to a local printer and within in 4 days they were at my doorstep. There was some leg work involved but it was relatively simple and a great memory for us.

These were ours. We went to malibu and took some pictures and then used a website to design the post cards. They cost us 60 cents per postcard!  Real budget saver
