Tissue Paper Flowers

by Jen L

Here is a quick and easy tutorial on how to make simple tissue paper flowers for a variety of uses.

Supplies:

  • A Bowdabra
  • Bowdabra Wire (can also substitute with ribbon, string, wire, etc. Bowdabra wire is the easiest, though)
  • Tissue paper in color of choice
  • Scissors
  • Rhinestones or other decorative element
  • Hot glue gun with low temp glue sticks

How To:

  1. Slice your tissue paper into roughly 3 inch wide strips. This size can vary and determines how large your piece will be. I created 3 inch by about 12 inch long strips. (**tip, if your tissue paper comes folded in a long fold it may be easier to leave them folded and cut that way!)

  2. Set aside tissue paper and cut about a 12 inch piece of Bowdabra wire (the size may vary depending on your needs.) Fold wire in half, place wire in the Bowdabra (see photo) and tuck loose ends underneath. Whatever size you make your wire it will be helpful if it can be tucked under once folded in half
  3. Use roughly 3 pieces of your pre cut tissue paper and carefully slide into the Bowdabra. Be very gentle to prevent tearing. Use the wand tool that comes with the bow maker to push the tissue paper down
  4. Once finished, pull up both sides of the wire. One side will be a loop, the other two loose ends. Pull the two loose ends through the loop and carefully pull up your piece. Gently pull apart the two loose ends as you lift, pull around your piece and tie in a double knot. (You may need to give it a tug to make it nice and tight)

That's all there is to it! I carefully fluffed the flower with my fingers and hot glued a rhinestone in the center. The photo shows them glued onto a Manzanita tree but these can be used for favors, napkin rings, hair accessories, bouquets, and so much more! Enjoy!

I've never seen a Bowdabra in action before, but these turned out great!
