Get These Celebrity Wedding Cakes! article photo

You don’t have to be a movie star to have a fabulous cake at your wedding!  Not everyone has the budget to book celebrity designers like Sam Godfrey from Perfect Endings, so here are some inspiring cake styles that you can easily achieve for your own perfect day.

Clean + Classic

Go with a dramatic all white cake, invoking purity and instant awe. Go even further and immerse your cake in monochromatic flowers, truffles, or marzipan decorations. Katherine Heigl dotted her cake with orbs of white chocolate, by Ambrosia in Utah.  Catherine Zeta-Jones cut into a sugar garden created by New York’s Sylvia Weinstock.  R&B crooner Usher went for a statuesque tower from Perfect Endings.

Sweet + Simple

Keep things down to earth with a simple cake dressed up with some fresh or candied flowers.  Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi hired Sweet Lady Jane of LA to create an endearing cake with piped floral designs.  Elizabeth Banks (Hansen’s Cakes in LA) and Jenna Bush (The Ultimate Cheesecake Bakery in Texas) both opted for fresh flowers to brighten up their neutral tiers.

Romantic

Cascade flowers or petals in warm colors over your tiers, like shades of pink and red. Add delicate details like draping and pearls to bring softness to the structure.  Marcia Cross worked with Layers Cake Design to create a love letter just waiting to be opened!  Christina Aguilera (Perfect Endings) and Tia Mowry both had cakes dripping with dainty pink flowers.

Cupcakes

These itty bitty bites of bliss aren’t just a trend in your own circle – even celebrities are doing it!  Forego the daunting cake and get cute cupcakes instead.  Rebecca Romijn’s summer bounty spread included mini apple cakes and the classic red velvet.  Actress Joely Fisher maintained traditional tiers of her tiny desserts.

Glitz + Glamour

Create a regal design covering the cake layers, like CNN’s Sanjay Gupta (Wedding Cakes by Jim Smeal), or add a little sparkle by using crystallized monogram cake toppers like Ruben Studdard.  These small touches can really bring your cake to celebrity status!

Really? Why do you even need a cake? Most people will be full up from the meal anyway, and won't even eat it. The only reason you have it nowadays is for some daft photo op. If I can't make my own (which I will try to do) then I will pass, thanks...

Or you could just buy a few supermarket cakes and layer them in tiers. Much cheaper, plus they're already iced and decorated.

Great ideas, all lovely. But, really, it's just going to be cut, eaten, and probably NOT eaten & left on the plate. Shop for a cake based on TASTE, and don't spend your hard-earned money on looks alone. Pretty is nice, but DELICIOUS is better!!

I love this process of looking for wedding venues, its like picking out a dress, but bigger.  But the cake to me, is just below the dress on a level of priority.  To me, its the dress, the cake, the venue.
