You've been dreaming about your wedding day since you were a little girl and you're overwhelmed with excitement knowing that your fairy tale affair will soon come to life.  You've got bridal showers to attend and gifts to open; there are tea parties planned just to celebrate you; let's face it - as the bride-to-be, you're getting tons of attention!   But what about your future groom?

Groom's Day Out

Dealing with a bride while she's in the midst of planning her wedding is a job all in itself!  Your fiancé may have been speechless when you asked for his input on colors; he may have been a bit late with his share of the guest list; his best idea for the reception may have involved mud wrestling - but your future husband has listened to your rants about bridesmaids and mothers, he's tasted dozens of wedding cakes, and he's loyally agreed that your decoration ideas are brilliant.  He deserves some attention too!

We've all heard the horror stories of bachelor party mishaps and grooms standing at the altar still in a drunken stupor from their wild celebrations the night before.  A lot of brides would be quite happy if the words ‘bachelor party' were never heard again, especially before their own weddings.  Instead of traditional bachelor parties, many grooms-to-be are opting for a calm and relaxing Groom's Day Out to celebrate with their friends.

Things to Do

Groom's Day Out usually centers on a favorite hobby.  It's not uncommon for the event to take place in conjunction with the bachelorette festivities, allowing everyone to come together for a bigger celebration at the end of the day.  Some Groom's Days are afternoon events, while others last the entire day - weekend celebrations are gaining popularity too.

Here are a few ideas to pass along to the best man:

  • Make arrangements with a local resort or park for an afternoon of canoeing, fishing, swimming, or jet skiing.
  • Schedule an evening river cruise that includes dinner and entertainment. Some have onboard casinos while others feature music or theatrical presentations.
  • Plan a white-water rafting adventure for the day or the weekend.
  • Get the groomsmen together for a day at the spa. Many offer packages specifically designed for a Groom's Day Out.

Some grooms keep things simple with an informal round of golf at a nice club. Others may gather at the local bowling alley or meeting hall.  Booking a weekend in a nearby hunting lodge is popular as well.  Whatever the guys plan for your groom, encourage him to have a good time and enjoy his day out.

This is such a great idea and a great alternative for the guy that doesn't like to go out to bars or drink.  I will suggest this to his friends.  Thank you!

I think it's a great idea to give the groom some special day. But the problem is that EVERYTHING costs money. It gets kinda pricey when you're paying everything on your own.

wow msleamarie... that is the MOST SELF CENTERED post i have EVER read. I'm sure she won't see this, but if feel sorry for the man she is going to marry!

I have bent over backwards to make sure that my groom to be is involved as much as possible. he has been dreaming of getting married as long as i have and i want him to look back at the wedding day as his "dream wedding" as well.

we had seperate bachelor/bachelorette parties, but i think it would have been more enjoyable to have a joint one. we have all the same friends, and my little brothers were busy at his party... and i don't have many female friends. We both still had a great time, don't get me wrong!

It isn't about the groom as much as it about the bride.  Regardless what anyone says, the wedding is taking place because of the bride.  The bride has the bigger role in the celebration.  We as brides have to look flawless and get everything together.  No one cares about the grooms tuxedo which is why he normally rents it.  The groom doesn't have a makeup and hair stylist with them the day of the wedding.

I guess I'm bias because I've spent 6 months straight planning my wedding and I'm now just days away from it.  I'm a good looking woman (not bragging, I just know i'm good looking) and everyone is anticipating what dress I will wear, how I will look, etc.  No one has asked my fiance' what he is wearing..

In regards to the wedding everyone approaches me in terms of the details.  Let's be honest.  This is MY wedding.  My fiance' is special to me and I love him with all my heart but if it was up to him, we would have someone else plan it and spent well over $100,000.  I managed to keep us at a reasonable budget. My wedding is going to be spectacular and beautiful.  Our marriage will be equally the same.
