Making Rustic Birch Aisle Signs

(community article)

Per the request of several other rustic/nature brides out there, I've put together a list of directions on making this super simple rustic aisle decor for your ceremony site.

Inspiration:

This was the inspiration for the aisle decor (I believe this photo was from Snippet and Ink). These are actually boxes made of birch panels and they held the wedding programs in them. I didn't want a box, but rather, a sign to have hanging from the pews.

Supplies:

  • craft birch bark (Ebay has birch sheets really cheap; I paid around $10 for all I needed for 10 signs)
  • ribbon of your choice (got the avocado ribbon here from www.mjtrim.com)
  • thick paper for making sign to go on birch
  • measuring tape, scissors, glue

Directions:

  • Create birch rectangles: Decide how large you want the signs and measure out your rectangles on the birch sheets; use scissors/cricut to carefully cut out your shapes from the bark (birch bark is quite delicate)
  • Create paper signs: Create your paper sign in the computer program of your choice and decide what you want it to say - your names and wedding date, a Bible verse, a romantic quote, etc. Print the signs out and cut them up (for mine, I also used a corner rounder to round the edges of the paper signs). Glue the signs to the middle of your birch rectangles.

  • Attach ribbon: Decide how long you want your ribbon to be and cut strips for ribbon to (1) use to hang the signs and (2) dangle from the bottom of the signs. Carefully cut holes at the top of your birch signs and attach ribbon to hang the sign (note: I did this to only one sign and then hung it from our pews to see if the ribbon was long enough and "hung right." Take your other ribbon strip for the sign, knot one end, and glue to the back of the birch sign so it dangles below the sign.

  Final result:

Total cost for birch aisle decor signs: Approximately $32 for 10 signs ($10 for birch, $2 for paper/printing, $20 for ribbon [I used really expensive ribbon though])
