I really wanted to throw a pretty springtime party, and was trying to think of a fun theme.  One day I noticed the Ruche Spring Lookbook, and I was completely inspired by the potting pictures.  I immediately decided to do a potted plant theme.  And since spring is so warm and bright, I thought it would be fun to serve sorbet.

I decided that I wanted a homemade, relaxed, but girly vibe, and set the scene with the invitations.  The flowers on the invitations are made up by a series of tiny x's to look like vintage cross-stitch.  I printed them out on cardstock and layered them to give the invitations more dimension.  I also made seed packets that matched the invitations, and used paper bag clip art for the background that I found at Pugly Pixel.

For the sorbets, I made four flavors - lemon, strawberry, mango and kiwi, and also made two savory appetizers to balance out all the sweet sorbet - Mini Spinach Cheese Tarts and Italian Sausage Olive Skewers.  Then after eating, we all potted two plants each.  Each guest chose a seed packet of flowers (either pansy, poppy or zinnia), and a packet of herbs (cilantro, basil and parsley), along with choosing a pot, and a mini trowel to pot their plants with.  I also supplied white markers so they could personalize and label the pots.

The party was a lot of fun, and the theme was perfect, especially with Earth Day and Easter in the same week. I think it would work great as a springtime bridal shower too!

It was butcher paper.  You can buy it at most art supply stores in rolls. : ) xo
