You're doing everything you can to stay calm and keep your sanity - hoping to keep that inner Bridezilla under control.  One second, things are perfect and you're the queen of matrimonial organization; the next minute, you're wondering if the entire wedding is falling apart as you desperately hang on to that last ounce of sanity!

You're Not Alone!

Pre-wedding jitters are absolutely normal - I've been there and so have a few million other brides-to-be.  Weddings are stressful for the entire bridal party and you're the star of the show.  If your upcoming day wasn't creating a few butterflies and giving you a big case of nervousness, then you may have a reason to be worried!

So take a deep breath and relax, but do your best to stay calm until the big day is over.  The butterflies and stress you're feeling not only affect you emotionally, but physically too, and no one wants a fainting bride at the alter!

Keep Your Nerves Under Control

Weddings are stressful and stress can wreak havoc on our bodies and minds!  Nothing will completely eliminate the pre-wedding jitters and you'll probably still have a few of those ‘on-the-verge-of-insanity' moments - but there are some things you can do to fight the bad effects of stress and stay in control.

  • Eat well. I know - there's that sleek and slim wedding dress you have to squeeze into in a few weeks, but stressing-out requires a lot of energy.  You have to replenish the nutrients your body eats up during high-stress moments or you'll feel rundown and exhausted. Staying the right size for your gown is important, but staying healthy is your first priority. Eat healthy and don't skip meals.  Foods that are high in protein are best - cheese, yogurt, peanut butter - and fresh fruit or energy bars are great for on-the-go boosts.
  • Exercise.  Physical activity helps to reduce stress - and keeps your waistline in check for the big day.  Aerobic-type exercises are the best for calming pre-wedding nerves.  Power walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, rowing, dancing - any activity that keeps you moving will immediately reduce anxiety and stress while burning maximum calories!
  • Relax.  Yes, it's easier said then done, but you have to take time away from the wedding details and give yourself time to refresh.  Try yoga or Pilates, meditate, or just go out for ice cream with your flower girl - read a book, take a puzzle break, or try a few deep-breathing exercises for a quick fix.

We've all experienced those out-of-control and hopeless moments as brides-to-be, but you don't have to let pre-wedding jitters and planning stress get the best of you!  Eat right, keep exercising, and refresh your mind whenever you can and you'll be calm, sane, and healthy on your special day.

Great article! I feel as though I'm getting nervous about being stressed out -- and I don't see why I would get stressed, my wedding is a really small intimate deal. I think it's because I just want all of my hard work to pay off. I've got like two weeks til my wedding date; the closer it gets to the day, the more I am wondering, am I forgetting about something. I'm also finding that I am getting brain dead tired and have less patience and tolerance for people helping. LOl! Oh geez! Well, I'm definitely going to try to eat proteins, wonderful advice, and I think i'm going to have lots of calming tea! best of luck to all us brides to be and mother's of the brides. :-0)
