Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Super easy and affordable decorations. Unfold halfway (as pictured) for a flower look or unfold all the way around for a pomander. (community article)

Hey ladies!  Wanted to share the tutorial for the poms with you.  Hope it helps.  =)

Materials:

  • 8 sheets of tissue paper (mine is 20" x 28" roughly)
  • 1 6"-8" length of floral wire
  • 1 pair sharp scissors

Step One:

Lay out your tissue paper and stack one piece on top of the other.  Check to make sure sides are all even as possible.

Step Two:

Start folding (about an inch to an inch and a half wide) accordion style (back and forth) until the tissue paper is all folded.  So it looks like the photo below.

Step Three:

Find the middle point of the tissue paper and wrap the floral wire around it.  Twist the ends to keep the tissue paper stacked together.

Step Four:

Take your scissors and carefully cut a round edge through all the layers of tissue paper as well as on both sides.  You want to take a little off the sides as well as the ends.

Step Five:

Turn the tissue paper on it's side with the floral wire by the bottom and fan out the sides.

Step Six:

Carefully start to separate the top layer of tissue paper one side and gently pull it up toward the center as much as possible.

To get an even "flower" look move to the other side and lift the first layer up as close to the middle as possible.

Continue to rotate the pom, lifting the tissue paper layer by layer until it's done.  Your finished product should look something like this.

You can fluff and readjust the layers as needed to get the right shape.  And there you have it, a tissue paper pom pom.

Perfect, I'm looking to make some bigger "faux" flowers for my ceremony. Great tutorial!
