If you have decided to hire a wedding band rather than finding a DJ or using an iPod, the next step is to find the right one for your wedding.  There are many great bands that specialize in weddings and have the charisma and charm to make your big day even more special.  In this wedding band guide, you will find some helpful pointers which will make choosing the right wedding band easy and less stressful.

Receive a Recommendation -

One convenient way to learn about talented and reliable bands to perform at your wedding is to receive a recommendation.  If a friend or family member has hired a band in the past that they were very pleased with, ask for the name or contact information.  If someone is pleased enough to recommend a wedding band to you, chances are you will be pleased with what they offer.

Create a Short List -

Whether you've gotten recommendations or you've found local bands yourself, it's important to create a small list with their names and contact information.  Call and speak with each representative to gain a few ideas about what is offered and what sort of personalities you're dealing with.

Interviewing the Bands -

Ask questions to help you determine which wedding band is right for you.  By calling and speaking to each band, you can compare the offers, prices and your own instinctual feeling of each one.  Some important questions to ask include:

-What is your normal rate for a wedding and ceremony per hour?

-Do you have samples or demo CDs available?

-What happens if you're unable to make it - will you provide or recommend a replacement?

-Would you be willing to play something in order to help me make my decision?

-How long have you been playing at weddings?

-Do you have the numbers of past clients available and may I contact them as a reference?

By speaking to each band and asking these pertinent questions, you can rule out any you're not happy with and narrow your choices down to one or just a few.

Important Tips -

Actually meet with the bands if possible in order to hear a demonstration.  It's important that you're satisfied with the talent and ability of the wedding band you choose.  Also, ask if there are any extra fees other than the price quoted.  Some bands charge a fee for setting up equipment, receiving play lists and more.  By using this wedding band guide as a resource for hiring your own wedding band, you can cover all issues and find the best band for your big day.

My fiance and I are co-founders of a blues and rock band called Kinkybootbeasts.  I also sing in the P-funk cover band, MC Funk.  Half of the suggestions offered for a great wedding do not apply to us because we are going to have the wedding of our lives!!!!!
