As a soon-to-be bride, you want to look your absolute best on your wedding day. From the perfect hairstyle and accessories to flawless make-up, you will be the most beautiful woman present at your wedding – and that’s the way it should be. But, what about your weight? If you want to be a thinner, healthier you at your wedding, should you diet before the wedding? Here are some important tips and suggestions for wedding weight loss.

Dieting Before the Wedding

If you plan on wedding weight loss, there are some important things to remember. It’s alright to want to lose a few pounds, but any more than five or ten pounds is a serious diet plan. It’s really not a good time to start planning a major life change during your wedding. If your goal is to lose five pounds before your wedding, it’s a lot different from wanting to lose forty or fifty. If you do want to take off a lot of weight, you may want to wait until after the wedding when things are more stable in order to start a diet plan.

Wedding Weight Loss and the Dress

All brides want to look spectacular in their perfect wedding dresses! Wanting to take off a few pounds or tone up to look wonderful in that dress is a great idea. However, buying a dress that is too small with the hopes of fitting into it before the wedding is a dangerous decision. If you’re unable to meet your weight loss goal by the wedding date – you’re stuck with a dress that will not fit!

The best idea for wedding weight loss is to buy a dress you currently fit in and have it taken in if you lose weight before the wedding. There’s a better chance you can have emergency alterations done to your dress rather than re-order a whole new dress on short notice.

A Few Tips for Wedding Weight Loss

Wedding planning is very stressful! You're dealing with the wedding arrangement and making plans for the reception and guests – being on a restrictive diet at this time can be rather unhealthy. If you want to lose a few pounds before donning your wedding gown, do it very safely. Start by drinking a lot more water.

Water is great at helping us lose weight and feel healthier. By drinking plenty of water, cutting out the fattening foods, and taking short walks – you can lose a lot more than you would suspect. Plus, you’re doing it in a healthy way, so you don’t risk being sick for your ceremony.

We all want to look amazing on our weddings and being healthier is always a plus – but do it safely and make smart choices so your wedding will turn out smoothly!

Hey all - I am an ACE certified Personal Trainer from Indiana and I am getting married in July. I've been reading some comments and just wanted to say good luck to everyone with their goals and this article hits on some good points - but I definitely can say do NOT underestimate the power of weight lifting.  If you want to "tone up" it will definitely be diet, cardio, AND a full body weight training session.  Getting with a trainer is probably the best way to go if you are unfamiliar with using weights.  I am 7 months out and I've been working hardcore on my shoulders and back for my strapless dress.  One thing to always remember is nutrition, cardio, and strength training all go hand in hand.  Be careful with the low carb diets, they will work to help lose that extra fat, but on your wedding day make sure you eat something that will give you the energy to get through the day.  Good luck all!!!

My wedding in in June and I have about 2 pounds to lose and most of all, just tone everything up because of my strapless dress!  So I have a personal trainer and she has me on an eating plan of all protein and veggies, NO CARBS!  And working out 5 days per week with Core training, cardio and full body.  We will see how it goes, 3 days and I've lost 3 pounds!

@AFlovbug - I have a major headache and I am so tired this week, but you are right, I am told it will get better after week two!

I've got just under a year I better get going now!! I don't wanna lose weight really, I just wanna tone up and become a healthier person. FI and I eat out ALOT! It's so bad. We need to make a life change! Not just a quick fix diet....

abs are made in the kitchen! so work out all you want but make sure you are sticking to lean proteins (chicken, turkey, fish) and all the veggies/salad/fruit you can eat. NO COMPLEX CARBS or processed food. if you have to have some kind of carb or you'll die, eat a baked potato/baked sweet potato, but that's it.

cutting out carbs will make you feel like crap for a few weeks because you're not used to it. it will give you a headache like you won't believe and you will feel tired. just up your water intake and eat as many small healthy snacks as you want. yogurt covered raisins are awesome when you're dieting! you will feel better after two weeks. it's not life changing or anything but your body responds quickly to changes in your diet. diet and exercise really go hand in hand when it comes to weight loss. it's nothing new, just absolutely true.
