Wedding Dress Spotlight: Amy Michelson
Love the sexy, beachy vibe? Then Amy Michelson is the designer for you! (expert advice)
Amy Michelson has a knack for designing dresses that bride's completely fall in love with. Her Spring 2010 collection is no exception.
Michelson started her career by renovating antique clothing for celebrities, eventually moving to Los Angeles to try her hand at acting. She starred in shows like "China Beach" and "Falcon Crest" -- but her first love, designing, would ultimately win out.
I met her recently in New York, where she showed off pieces from her romantic new line. "This collection is all about lightness, lace and sheerness...and the beachy, sexy, wood-nymph in the surf," Michelson revealed. "We like to say, 'From the ballroom to the beach!'"
Her dresses definitely have a fluid, flowing feel, perhaps because she says her designs and inspiration come to her when she is swimming. "I swim and as I am swimming I think of designing. The creative process is about allowing instead of forcing things to happen. I take inspiration from everywhere. I need to be quiet and assimilate...I show up and and I sketch."
She also have solved the "something blue" dilemma by incorporating sky blue sashes into the dresses - something the bride's are loving! "You feel skinnier with a sash around your waist," Michelson added. I will definitely be wearing a sash on my wedding day!
