Wedding Issues: Dealing with Problem Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids can be the source of major drama in your wedding. Here's how to avoid the stress. (expert advice)
As you deal with the stress of wedding planning and the blizzard of things you must do, you will be thankful to have helpful bridesmaids by your side. Whether they are your family, best friends or co-workers, you’ve selected these girls because they are amazing and very special to you! This is why it’s so difficult to deal with problem bridesmaids. Here are a few common issues and tips that may help.
Bridesmaid Dress Stress
Even if you think the bridesmaid dresses you’ve selected are breathtaking and perfect, your bridesmaid may not feel the same way. If the dress is stressing your bridesmaid out that badly, try to compromise. For instance, ask your bridesmaid to choose the style of dress she wants, but in the color you choose. Even if you’ve had your heart set on the exact same dress for every bridesmaid, sometimes compromise is necessary. You definitely don’t want to lose your bridesmaid’s friendship because of a dress decision! If you can compromise through the problems, do so.
Expense Issues
Because the bride-to-be isn’t usually required to pay for the bridesmaid dresses, some bridesmaids may have a problem with the dresses chosen. Be sensitive to your bridesmaids and what they can afford. You don’t want them to resent you for choosing a particular dress. If you want a very expensive dress, consider paying for half of the total cost. Another idea would be to pay for the accessories to the dress so your bridesmaid doesn’t go into debt in order to look gorgeous at your wedding!
Slacking Bridesmaids
Most brides are blessed to have women around them that are priceless! Bridesmaids are a valuable source of support, help and advice. If there is a particular bridesmaid that isn’t doing her part (assuming you expect a reasonable amount of help and not an actual maid), find out why. Without attacking her, ask if there is something keeping her from helping out. Perhaps she is dealing with something you don’t know about or don’t realize. Let her know in a sincere way that you need her support and help! When you let her know how you’re feeling, chances are she will be responsive. She may not even know how her actions are affecting you.
Being chosen as a bridesmaid is an honor and it’s also a big responsibility. Most bridesmaids are sensitive to the fact that this is YOUR big day and will do all they can to help. If you’re experiencing issues with one or more problem bridesmaids, use the advice above to help clear the air so things will go smoothly for your big day.
